Fantastic grey area. Here, I'd probably have that be legal. Not because I approve of it, but because the alternative, regulating who gets to reproduce, is worse.

Except that your markets are not perfect, your scalpers have overhead and now represent a middleman who wants their cut.

You have to understand this: Academia runs on clout. Not quality, not replicability, but reputation, however it is earned. That means that an amazing paper published in PLoS ONE is generally worse for your career than an unreplicable pile o

You could also have been "suppressed" because of general abortion, something that's typically done for the convenience of the parent. If we support abortion rights, there shouldn't be issues with the termination of foeti

That too. I left it out intentionally as while I personally think it's in the same category, it's unfortunately sufficiently normalized as to pass without question.

There's a difference between parents screwing up and giving them a blank check to cripple their kids. If my parents knowingly and intentionally crippled my sense of sight/hearing/touch/taste for the sake of crippling me,

There's a clear line between stopping reproduction and intentionally inducing disabilities. I'm going to put it another way. Does this really pass your own personal sanity check? That parents should be allowed to: - Amputate their

Hell no. You're telling me that it's in the domain of parents to knowingly cripple their kids sensory function? That's absurd.

I'll add this in. I don't have to watch my language around the right associated sacred cows. I can talk shit about religion, attack anti abortion activism and still be fine. But man, do anything with the left's cows and you&#

Well, the first thing that I'd point out is the Yale Islamic studies departments diversity and equal opportunity statements. This will fly heavily against much of the Islamic world's views on homosexuality.

I'll be a bit more charitable to this than I normally am. We're all polarized to the point where this sort of talk is normalised enough that he might not even instinctively think of it as condescending.

I'm pretty openly in support of gatekeeping. I'd have set the bar a bit earlier, but most people are going to set it in a way to include themselves anyway. However, I think gatekeeping is overly maligned right now. A fully open co

I'm not sure if you actually believe that. If the population I've observed is any way representative, we'd be more than happy to give full root level access if it means the cheaters actually vanish. You might be severely unde

I think the first question you should be asking yourself is what are the incentives in play here? Corruption is one, but are there actually incentives to run lean for a govt government here, or do they act like money is free.

Forests have basically no continuous carbon sequestration capability. Most of the carbon they'll ever sequester is already there. You'd get more by turning it into a tree farm, converting trees to charcoal and burying that.

I think there's at least two levels here. To go from nothing to something, a specialized instructor is the best. To go from something to the top tier, only then does following the best / doing something surpass that.

I enjoyed Janeway's Immunology back when I was in university. It's towards the more technical side of the spectrum (textbook), but I remember it being fairly comprehensive for the early bits.

That's roughly my understanding of this as well, pulling from whatever I remember from old immunology classes. The human adaptive immune response is massively parallel, and you can liken it to multiple progressive selection rounds for

This sounds about right to me, and has been my understanding of how communities homogenise and decay. Gatekeeping, in my opinion, doesn't deserve its bad rep. It alone is the only way to stem the tide in most situations.

5-100 million is life changing generational wealth money. 12 billion is "ascend to the highest rungs of of wealth" level money. 12 billion puts you into the top 3000 list, looking at wikipedia's billionaire count.

Herd immunity essentially doesn't exist for many viruses. What you'd get is more akin to an endemic virus such as the flu. Mutation rates and immune escape make herd immunity essentially a dream.
