I appreciate the designer's frustration, but I've found that in most cases, simply taking the site offline (assuming you host it) is enough to get a call back from the customer. If the customer decides that they'd rather not

I certainly understand the sentiment, but we've been talking about the end of the Windows era for at least fifteen years. At some point it will inevitably end, but I suspect that we will only be able to point to the 'final nail&#

Yeah, it's a cost vs. peace of mind equation. I've done both colo and managed, and in my case, having someone (e.g Rackspace) manage the ecosystem is worth the added cost.

Depends on whether your industry is seasonal, and how quickly you need to start turning a profit before you have to pack things up. Online retail (for me, anyway) was very slow in the summer and crazy around the holidays. If we had launch

We all acquire highly specialized knowledge based on our training and work experience. Some of that knowledge is easily transferable to other areas, and some of it isn't.

I don't know that anything has necessarily changed, since you've described the university experience I had almost 20 years ago. For what it's worth, if you relate to college as a hoop that you have to jump through (I did), then you'll almo
