i for one am tired of the hourly model. set a price whatever it may be. If you go low, you'll charge more the next time. if you go high, people will go to someone else.

dont forget parallel is much larger than cuda, gpu's just happen to be largely parallelizable chips. If your really basic, play around with java and get a feeling for threads and synchronous, maybe write a map/reduce program or 2 and run it

if its a desktop program like dropbox with a synced folder, you can write a script to place the gzip in the synced folder, and then it will sync automatically

i remember hearing the same argument when google made google videos to compete with youtube, and we all know how that ended. That said, there were social and community aspects there that don't apply here, and google's cheaper storage prices

one of the big things that helped propel paypal and square is the blended rate. Not finding a way to include amex in your single rate is a mistake.

actually it should be close to nothing, encrypted data cannot be compressed as it is supposed to be uniformly random. If it can be compressed, the encryption algorithm is weak. also on stage at tech crunch disrupt the founders were talking
