You might want to look into nix and nix-docker. Nix is a package management system which knows the full (yes completely full) transitive dependency tree of every package it installs, so you can have an absolutely minimal set of software in

This'd give you an artificial sense of security though. There's nothing stopping the device's firmware from injecting exploits into files that you put onto the device. So you tell the device to store workReport.pdf, and it st

I'm not sure I understand why you don't want your account to have a private G+ page. Why would you miss out on a service you like because you don't want to have to not use another one?

If they're smart, it feels like the shady groups would try to push for adoption of something like BitMessage to stop this kind of side-channel information leakage.

It's not flat design at all. They spent like 3/4 of the design segment in the keynote talking about how everything has a depth, and how things cast shadows on each other. Have we reached a point where anyone using color is ripping

I think a 51% attack would be really scary in this case, and quite realistic. If the US and the rest of the EU all decided they wanted some domain off the internet, combined they'd probably have enough power to fork the blockchain.

USP is Unique Selling Point. There's lots of technologists on HN and lots of business types, and only a subset of each understand the other's lingo. People should try and explain their lingo when they use it, for the benefit of th

I might be alone, but I think I'd refund every app I purchased if I could within 48 hours. Even 24 would be too short for me. I'd be able to pick up new games every week for my weekly commute and never have to pay for them.

There is a short, free mandatory trial period on every app in the play store. The first time you purchase an app you have 15 minutes, during which time you can go back to the store and hit "refund" to reverse the charge and uninst

I might be revealing my stupidity here, but surely your ISP can MITM the HTTPS handshake and decrypt all of your traffic? Unless you have a pre-arranged key that hasn't travelled through their network.
