I've all but given up on smart home tech. Almost all of them use the old 2.4ghz wifi band which nothing else in my home uses, and for some reason despite being connected to (any) router that supports both they'll fail to communica

Had a similar thing at my place. We spend extortionate amounts on AWS for a load balanced setup - we dont make any real use of any of their other services so its not like we're reliant on them for everything. The guy who set it up had

That newegg interview was the strangest and most awkward encounter imagineable. The whole overly corporate feel of the company was exposed and just made them look even worse.

Feel like I'm traveling back to about 2009 visiting that site. Tired looking design, forced 'Book a demo' (why? Just give me the damn product) nonsense, still using SVN for their opensource version, etc. It might be a great p

There were similar discussions in the PHP community, with arguments that were sensible and rather stupid on both sides of the argument. I'm honestly a bit torn by it. Yes, your code absolutely should be written in a way that keeps it t

It is quite amazing that with the experience people like these co-founders have that they put that to use creating things that, on the face of it look like fairly obvious flops. It really does highlight just how many people get lucky with o

They've not been too truthful with the community over their supply chain issues. At the peak they were still making north of 100k units a month. It's just that over 95% of those were being sold in bulk to direct B2B customers whil

Not sure its a laptop at this point. All attempts to a multi-screened laptop seem to fail spectacularly and end up far too heavy for the brackets, causing it to flop down.

To clarify I was aware it was an older study, but there's been a pretty significant surge in 3d printing interest in the last couple of months with the Bambu Lab P1P and X1 starting a trend of new consumer grade 3d printers capable of

With all the new materials that you can get I think a combination of both (plus venting to outside) is needed for real protection. The current hot new printer is the Bambu Lab X1. It's aimed at consumers and is capable of printing thin

The filter in the X1 isn't good enough to filter much out at all really. It's more of a gimmick than a genuine filter solution. I've put mine in an out building and installed a shower fan in the wall which is connected up to

Yup, pretty much the reason I shared it. The 3d printing community is going through somewhat of a transition with the 'next generation' of 3d printers (Voron and Bambu Lab X1 & P1P). The latter is a high performance, high prin

Yep this prevented any commercial options. It's why the Ikea Lack became so popular as an easy and low cost enclosure to make - I've got one for my Prusa Mini+ and it obviously does nothing to help with venting.

There does seem to have been a slight shift in mentality over the last couple of years in the 3d printing community, with groups of users obsessing over statistics from air quality and particle sensors. One thing that is a bit concerning is

I'm not sure it matters too much from the context of the article. I took it to mean commercial = any purchased printers (vs a self build). The end results in terms of VOC's and other nastiness is going to be the same regardless as
