I did this for just about a year, and i can confirm this works if you put in the time. I'm at around 3000 recognizable kanji and can watch/read pretty much anything that's not particularly hard.

Perhaps the website has changed since this comment was made, but they actually do put pricing on the page. It's just at the very bottom of the page which the user would have to scroll to after seeing "sign up for free" twice

I've rarely encounter bugs in Anki. The ones i have encountered have been the result of me hacking on it in some way. Sure it's hard to use and pretty clunky, but i wouldn't call it buggy.
