I don't think the lack of sources make it "not an essay". You can dispute the value of the writing, but it's a bit weird to think it's pompous to use words with the definition of the most common usage: Essay 1. A sh

I think that's an uncharitable view of the author's choice of words. He also doesn't even use "thesis" in the way you imply, he refers to "the thesis of the essay", which unambiguously is the meaning of th

When I was in Japan there were some cases of four 7/11s visible at once without turning my head, so I think you can set your sights a lot lower than a one mile radius.

I don't think easier and simpler are necessarily aligned. Ancient hunter/gather life could be said as simpler, but also could be brutally difficult compared to all of the modern luxuries.

Stadia controller connects directly to WiFi to the remote server though, so it sounds like the Chromecast or whatever isn't even getting the local inputs to do such tricks.

When I worked on a mobile C++ project at Google, we went exceptionally out of our way to avoid memory issues. We ran under valgrind and multiple sanitizers (and continuously ran those with high coverage unit and integration tests). We ran f

Yeah, the main difference is that usually these vms can be deliberately written to be nonportable to things like emulators and headless browsers, making it a lot harder to just execute the same code at scale.

Do you see capping at 100x returns as reducing profit motives? As in, a dastaradly profiteerer would be attracted to a possible 1000x investment but scoff at the mere 100x return?

Sometimes just fixing the rough edges with syntactic sugar can provide a lot of value. Like, CoffeeScript got pretty far with that strategy. Honestly, a lot of the best TypeScript features could be described the way you describe it.
