None of your Jacascript code will run? That sounds overly dramatic. 1. this only concerns regex 2. there’s an alternative regex syntax doing the same thing as part of the ecma standard 3. it can be implemented very easily without regex in a

I don’t think the Rust code could be shorter than the C++ code when converting pretty much line by line, since that leads to C++-style Rust code. For example idiomatic Rust code can do with less defensive programming due to language feature

You’re whitewashing history if you think Pascal was superior to C. There was no conspiracy among compiler developers as you imply. Also you complain about semantic richness of C, but then only point to semantically rich languages you despis

Unironically, I can totally see this with MQTT in the manufacturing industry. It’s unifying the communication a lot which used to be very heterogeneous and proprietary.

I remember something about mysql not treating localhost as local, but 127.0.0.1 would. This led to very different performance. (Long ago, not sure about details) Also surprised by libraries not using more efficient protocols although they w

Frankly speaking the target 5x improvement, if everything works out as desired, doesn’t change too much overall. Python is often magnitudes slower than other languages, oftentimes even other scripting languages. So for me at least it won’t

Compare: thinking in OOP terms in say, Haskell, is terrible. -> doesn’t mean OOP is terrible or that Haskell is terrible. Thinking in functional terms in Haskell is great. -> doesn’t mean functional programming is great or that Haskel

Oftentimes users of the GPU have to sanitize the data and commands sent to the GPU driver because it makes harsh assumptions about the inputs being legal. In that case the bug is on the application side because an unsafe API was used with a

The article mentions a heap buffer overflow in GPU, so it might be a driver issue. GPU drivers were traditionally not written with security in mind so there are a lot of potential bugs in there.

I’m not talking, like you, about “A parses faster than B”. I talk about “A causes the parser to start over, B doesn’t, so B is faster”. Resets do make a difference that does not require microbenchmarks and is in the realm of milliseconds. T
