Sure. You start a PC repair business. At first, losing a stick of RAM or frying someone's motherboard is super costly when you are doing 10 a week. But once you're doing 1000, that's pretty damn good and easily covered. When

I think in the AI age, it might not be so bad. There's a small online game that I played years ago that I checked in on 2 days ago to see if it was still running, it was with a handful of people playing it. So I downloaded the client t

Why do you think it would be more common? The pooling of GPUs to serve multiple users and connecting to docs/datalakes while respecting security controls, as a start, is non-trivial. You'd end up paying a team to manage that.

Yeah, that's pretty clear. There's a comment saying that just managing PCs is risky. I don't think most people here understand how 1000s of devices are managed in larger companies and the damage an average non technical user

Yeah, the longer you're in, the less employable you are, and are more likely to reoffend. Our prison systems do fuckall for rehabilitation because in general, the public sentiment is "lock them up and throw away the key, I hope th

I haven't seen a dock that the laptop needs to sit in in ~10 years. Afaik those kind of laptops haven't been made for that long either. It's all USB-C now.

Everything is a programming exercise. Can a person with domain knowledge and NOT programming logic succeed. I thought that's what this was about. Ok, sure, AI is good at programming.

There's no chess spec, it's not "solved" like it's just a matter of implementation. Chess bot programming wouldn't be a thing otherwise. I think it's really quite funny that you think this super complicate

You can say that about any domain. I'm done with this. What I'm hearing from people is that AI is only for programmers and is useless for everyone else. And it honestly seems to be that way.

I don't know how you can say application and experience isn't domain knowledge. If it isn't, I have no idea wtf we are talking about and I'll have to accuse you of moving goalposts.

I had never tried to make a chess bot before though, we both started at the same spot. There are obvious things you can search for to make one. We both had the same information there. The domain was chess, and his expertise didn't help

What would fill in the blank be? Because this was actually kind of a test for me to address the question of "does AI just amplify domain knowledge?" In this case, it seems it didn't.

My friend is an electrical engineer and just passed a FIDE chess rating of 2000. Has played for 30 years, started the chess club in high school. Knows a little programming from the stuff he had to do with microcontrollers in college. I'

That exact same 1200 sq ft house is now 300k in the Midwest, if it's even for sale at all, and it's likely a rental for $2.5k/month.

How is this relevant? The houses built in the 60s aren't affordable either. Look at median income and median home prices. You're telling on yourself. Average families aren't buying prepared food and they have a washing machin

I think it's impossible to argue we are better off. This comment is so detached from reality it's almost offensive. Education is unaffordable, health care is unaffordable, homes are unaffordable, the rich have gotten massively ric

You are a tool. You're a human resource, from the perspective of the organization. That pushes buttons on bunch of other tools. That's why you compare it. Edit: I don't mean tool as a perjoritive.

Idk if the GitHub analogy really works for music. With software, the code is a tool. And you can give the code away and still make money on hosting, support, enterprise sales, consulting, recruiting, whatever. With music, the stem is the

People have done this long before vibe coding was a thing. I've seen this everywhere. Not every business employs devs or can afford to. So people hack things together with powershell or python. It has always been this way.

Idk man, I think at this point, if you can't get good code out of frontier models, you're doing something wrong. Plenty of resources out there for you to familiarize yourself with the workflows if you can be bothered.
