Benjamin Graham looked for equities trading at less than 66% of their Net Current Asset Value. Where, NCAV (Net Current Asset Value) = Current Assets - TOTAL Liabilities. Note that Graham calculated NCAV using total liabilities, and not jus

Right, it's a contextual ranking algorithm -- it ranks links based on how "similar" they are to what you typed in. So, the further down the list you go, the lower the rank is -- the less "similar" the links get. We actually compute a numeri

BTW, I want to apologize for how slow searches are running! We're going to work on this until it's fixed. It should probably take about a week to see an improvement -- we don't want to sacrifice recall or precision to improve performance. S

We received a lot of valuable feedback on our similarity-search engine, which we launched a few days ago. Based on your feedback, we've made some major changes to improve recall. Specifically, we've begun to include data from our web-crawle

It's a very tough problem. Queries such as "square", "blue", "fast", etc... will yield very poor results. PLSI tends to perform very well on more specific queries, such as "Paul Graham", "silicon graphics", etc... The problem with PLSI is t

Good information. I didn't know that. Also, not everyone ski's. I'm trying to think of a way to make the functionality of the shapes more obvious.

You have to click on the bold links to "drill-down". So, if you click on "johann sebastian bach", it will give start to give you results such as: "Vivaldi's Cello" and "History of Germany" Currently, we're limited to running on one server.

Yes. At this point we're really constrained by the number of cores we're running on. Once we can get a hold of some more servers, we should be able to drastically improve the performance and prune many of the results. We'd also like to run

Thank you for trying it out. Re: performance - It's mining through ~40gb of data on server with 8gb of ram. - Also, we're not using caching of search results -- it computes on-the-fly for each query. - If we can get a hold of more servers,

Currently, we're text-mining the english version of Wikipedia. There's a lot of room for improvement: optimizing for speed and pruning down the results are at the top of our "TODO" list. Also, the UI is simplistic -- that's because we've be

Done. We've implemented a simple Bayesian filter to remote most of the ISP's. There's still some work to be done, but it's a major improvement. ESER

Actually, there's a good reason why the UI is so odd: * My web-browser of choice is Lynx :-)

Definitely. Good suggestion. I didn't think of that. Thanks. Unfortunately, I'm more of a low-level kernel hacker and math geek (machine learning algorithms, cluster file systems, robotics, etc..) than I am a UI person. Which is a _major_ p

There is a comments system on every page. Just scroll down to the bottom, type in your comment, and hit submit! I should probably make that feature more obvious.

We're running ESer.org ( http://www.eser.org/usa ) on over 120 different virtualized linux servers. Moving a virtual machine from one server to another involves a simple rsync operation and takes just a few minutes over gigabit ethernet. S
