It should not even be able to communicate with the local network at all, it’s a goddamn web page. It should be restricted to just communicate with the server that hosts it and that’s it.

The simplest explanation is that they perceive “violating immigration law” and “saying something publicly that the current administration disapproves of” as being the same thing and are completely comfortable with that.

That’s a meme created and spread by pseudo-journalist Declan McCullagh specifically to tar Al Gore in the lead-up to the 2000 election. Specifically, Gore said in an interview that he “took the initiative in creating the Internet” by introd

I know some of the people involved in those releases; Apple has been extremely diligent about keeping all of those artifacts in perpetuity. They use geologically-stable offsite storage and so on, and keep that stuff for IP protection reason

Apple almost certainly has both the raw ROM image and the source code in their archive. Remember, in the past they’ve shared things like the original QuickDraw, MacPaint, and Lisa operating system and Office System source code.

How do you square this with the fact that LLM-based tools aren’t actually doing any analysis whatsoever, but are just pachinko machines that produce statistically likely output tokens when given input tokens?

It’s producing statically likely next tokens based on its training corpus and prompts. That’s what it’s doing. It’s not analyzing your code, it’s not considering approaches, it’s not theorizing about behavior, it’s just producing statistica

For one thing, on most modern systems there isn’t a framebuffer, there’s only a simulation of one created by GPU compositing. For another, security. Your application doesn’t get to scrape other applications’ windows and doesn’t get to put

Sounds like you bought the hype about LLMs without any understanding anything about LLMs and are now upset that the hype train is crashing because it was based on promises that not only wouldn’t but couldn’t be kept.

Yeah, Amiga 1000 only had a bootstrap ROM, which is what led to having a Kickstart ROM with part of the OS in it—same with the original Atari 260ST/520ST. Apple’s Lisa also had only a bootstrap ROM, which is why it originally had two T

It’s pretty interesting how Amiga and Atari ST followed Macintosh down a bad path of having large amounts of the OS in ROM, which may have made some sense when a single few-hundred-kilobyte floppy was the only storage most users would have,

Cross-platform frameworks are inevitably crap. If you really need to run an application on multiple platforms, write a cross-platform core and implement the human interface atop it for each platform using each platform’s native frameworks a

Why would you expect it to “get some kind of reaction?” That strongly implies that you perceive what the LLM doing as “understanding” the tokens you’re feeding it, which *is not something LLMs are capable of*.
