Now maybe I'll get some backlash for this, but I can't square this attitude I hear again and again: > Hyper-growth at any cost was out of the question, because it incentivizes profit over purpose and extractive practices toward

It's part of kubesail.com, which helps folks host at home (but works with any kubernetes cluster). We use restic as part of the backup service which launches a container on your machine to locally encrypt and then upload data. Restic w

Ah, this article is for you! Why adding an optional feature in a free app that tons of users want badly is "exploitative grift" I'm not sure I'll ever be able to understand.

Huh I have an 8GB air and I run Kubernetes locally and develop a fairly complex system with Skaffold on it (~10 services). Thing is a beast, had no problems at all, but one does need to be aware one is not on the 128GB-of-RAM workstation :P

Hah that is interesting. I don't think it changes my point tho - maybe just makes smoking a bad example. However, I was using it as a proxy for "anything that increases your health-care costs".

In spirit, I agree, but just in terms of economic language, the "social engineer" by definition has to raise funds non-voluntarily. You're 100% right, we're _all_ social engineers - but if you raise your funds voluntaril

This is exactly what I’m trying to fix - and why I quit a job at Stripe to do it. We had mainframes, we had data centers, we have the cloud - and now folks are talking about fixing the internet with blockchains. What we really need is more
