My point was that any branching strategy will necessarily introduce an integration delay. Instead of merging to master every hour or so, the delay is measured in days. The longer the gaps between merges the larger the change set, the greate

We commit everything to master and run CI/CD(staging) on every remote push. If some work isn't release-ready by EOD it's pushed to a branch overnight so it's not just on a single laptop. That's it. Works great!

Wine was probably vastly more expensive as a proportion of income in the 1700s compared to today. Makes sense that glasses would be that much smaller.

I agree it looks odd but you know what? It's NOT illegal to travel with ANY quantity of cash. No matter how suspicious it looks. The burden of proof of a crime still lies (or should lie but clearly doesn't) with law enforcement.

Given a situation where (pre-rust) the usual choice would be to use C or C++, it's totally appropriate to choose Rust. That's one of Rust's express design goals. Go is intended to make it very easy for junior devs to build co

Does this mean that someone can game 1-time special offers by repeatedly signing up and then demanding to be forgotten? There's probably no legal obligation to enforce once-only cashback sign-up offers, so the right to be forgotten wou

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't this strictly worse than DNSCurve & DNSCrypt? Those protocols are secure even over a hostile network. The only traffic visible is an end-to-end encrypted DNS request.

Satoshi added the block size cap as a DOS-prevention mechanism (to stop blocks from being bloated with 'dust' txns and grinding the network to a halt). It was done without any real discussion and the value was probably whatever fe

Just like _actual_ cash! The bank doesn't scan the serial numbers on the money I deposit and yet they somehow correctly credit my account.

This reminds me of the story of ancient Ethiopians using binary maths. I read about it a while back and finally managed to track it down (the original link seems dead): https://web.archive.org/web/20170609082700/ht

This problem was solved in 1999 with client-side certificates. Your browser would simply refuse to log you into the fake bank site.

Who is this 'they' you speak of? I for one enjoy living in a country with roads, power, drinkable water, no guns, free healthcare and the reasonable expectation that everything will cost roughly the same tomorrow as it did today.

Google authenticator only stores its data locally. If you lose your phone you're screwed. Authy replicates data so you can have your 2FA on multiple devices and easily restore them if your phone dies.

Safer? Debatable. There are no cars in that picture, which represent the largest danger to moped riders. You'd also need a road 10x wider for the same volume of traffic.

It's hard to play the scrappy upstart 'disrupt' card when you're a 50-billion or so valued company who can afford to hire people who can tell you how not to fuck up quite so incompetently.
