But... you don't. The turbines in any kind of staged or full flow system run at a pressure higher than the chamber is at... I don't remember the numbers offhand but I want to say the SSME's preburners were at 8000ish psi, wit

I'm not clear what the efficiency gains are here at all over a SSME style staged combustion cycle. In both designs all propellants go through the chamber. Comparing to a gas generator cycle there are gains, sure. It seems like the majo

Seriously? Tesla interiors have a high tech feel, but they are pretty spartan and lack luxury I expect in a $100k car. You can get into a 3 series BMW and it's got a higher quality interior than any Tesla.

Facebook's development process for iOS (and android) is dependent on having most/all employees dogfood beta releases and report bugs that can be ignored. This breaks that pretty badly, and now users in the wild will have to report

I hate that quote. They wouldn't have wanted faster horses, they'd have wanted something faster (or lower maintenance, or cheaper) than a horse.

I've almost been hit by so many idiots who don't turn their heads and just trust their stupid mirrors, I want to have 5 minutes alone in a locked room with whoever wrote this article.

I'm so glad I left that place. I always had concerns but I had no idea the greed and abuse of users was so entrenched. Working in infra you don't find out about this kind of stuff.

Boz's 'the ugly' that got leaked is probably the best well known documentation of this cult. My whole time there it creeped me out.

This sounds like me, except the debt and relationship problems. I'm 90% sure I have add, but I'm afraid treatment would turn me into a zombie. It would be really nice to be able to work on crap at work I can't stand doing, bu

I wasn't a "follow your heart" kid, but school came super easy to me and I never learned how to force myself to do things I don't want to do. It's a constant struggle.

When I was there android use was encouraged because there are a lot more android users in the world so for dogfooding it makes sense. 90% of the company used iPhones anyway.

My people. I can't stand drinking plain water. I need some kind of taste. I end up drinking a LOT of iced tea, and G2 gatorade when I'm exercising.

If there's one thing I've learned in my 45 years of life, it's that being a horrible scumbag makes it a lot easier to get rich.

Look at the bright side.. accurate nuclear weapon simulations led to the end of live weapons testing.

I'm the same way. I took a year off once, and it was awesome. I regret not being a lucky trust fund kid.

It's super clacky, there's no key travel, and it's hard to blindly feel the edges of the keys. There's also no escape key.

Motivation. I'd like to retire ASAP, but I'm already old (45) and I've just let so many opportunities slip by because I can't get off my ass.

It's true.. when was the last time the US fought "proper" army regulars? Iraq in 2003/2004? Most war these days is asymmetrical.

Not really. We have a little bit of data on how mostly automated cars handle driving on controlled access roads in good conditions, and tons of data on what humans end up doing on all types of roads in all types of conditions.

Me too, and the astronauts make that choice themselves knowing their butts are on the line... we don't have some "move fast" CEO grab random people off the street and shove them into poorly built and untested rockets.

Your "think of the children" argument is pretty weak, really. Humans are pretty good drivers, and if we had more strict licensing requirements/testing and actual severe penalties for DUI we'd probably cut the death rate
