> Because the U.S. economy is primarily internally driven; trade is only about 15% of GDP. So more important than the balance of trade is how that trade impacts the domestic economy. That's almost scarier, really. It's a big sh

For me personally, "meaningful" can be replaced by "interesting". I don't really care if what I'm doing has any meaning whatsoever, I want it to be interesting and tap into my strengths. Note also, this had not

We are now entering the trough of disillusionment. In a few years some real novel and amazing companies will emerge and drones will find their useful place in society.

Neither do most of the drivers, unfortunately. They are going to be the ones holding the bag at the end.

Right, eventually the drivers will figure out that they are the losers in this scheme. People really don't understand just how much it costs to own a car, especially one you drive 30k miles a year.

With a functional government, regulations enable the regulators to punish people who do these things.

Can not agree more. Anyone wonder why IC starts at level 3 but managers start at level 5? It's not because they're separate but equal.

I've survived for years drinking mostly iced tea, with a soda in the morning instead of coffee. I can count the number of times I drink plain water in a week on one hand (after exercise, basically)

There's no faster (or more convenient) way of getting anywhere outside of a city than driving. It's point to point, and runs on my schedule.

I punted my work issued one back and asked for a 2015. The new keyboard is an abomination.

:) Our "billionaire" president paid his son's Boy Scouts fees with charity money rather than his own. People with that kind of money are usually SUPER cheap and REALLY attached to every dollar.

as long as there is a positive pressure differential between the helium lines and the tank, all is well. Also, there's no valve for the water hammer effect to destroy now :)

I worked for a company that had Florida (and other state) DMV data and that's exactly what we did.

The problem is you can't form one when you need it, because then it's too late. You have to do it ahead of time, when you think you probably don't need it, because that's when you have the upper hand.

It's more dangerous, and I trust distributed systems (humans) more than a monolith (waymo). Sure, an individual human may from time to time screw up, but there aren't any defects present in every single person just waiting for the

Uber and the entire gig economy is a blight on society, where a poorly skilled labor force are exploited for gain by a wealthy few with little hope of improvement.

Driving is not dangerous. Millions of people drive hundreds of millions of miles a day in the US, and the number of deaths is a statistical blip.

I think this "study" is crap. On one side, you have armed terrorists threatening a state legislature, and on the other side you have... what? The gap isn't in perception, it's in civilized behavior.

Understood :) I had this idea myself but had no real way of pulling it off. I have believed for a long time that the real wins in autonomous vehicles would come from long haul trucking, but the last mile problem would really seal the deal.
