The best money I've spent lately was $20 for this cat. Food and litter's another $15-20 per month at the very most, and I have company even when I'm hacking at 4am.

Works fine. Unfortunately, developing without Unix stinks. and Cygwin is a hack (very slow). Vim is much more powerful with Unix tools on hand. I learned Vim on XP (no choice of OS, so it was the best choice).

This article didn't make that much sense to me until I read this paragraph at the end: "Nurses and midwives tend to tell jokes about patients but not when the doctor is present. And when someone initiates a joke they tend to be ignored if

I don't think I've ever used print that way. If I need to print more than one thing, it's clearer to use regular string formatting. Thanks for clarifying that though, interesting.

Nice explanation. Note that I did wrap my print arg in parens, however. When I heard they were changing it to a function in 3 I made this a habit.

I guess that the food around their offices stinks...I've never felt the way you do about the DC area. Either way, I'm not suggesting that they do away with the cafeteria, but they probably should avoid breaking the bank on it.

I hope that if I ever have a company this well-funded, my idea is exciting enough that I won't have to lure high-profile talent like this. Because stuff like this is probably not going to help a company get in the black. I know, this is a v

In case I missed it, did that study control for location? I know that the other study stated that it did not have much (if any) background information on the candidates, but did say that infection rates for the parasite are higher in villag

This parasite is indeed real and widespread, and the reason you don't notice its effects in others is because its effects are rather minor, resulting from small brain infections and increased dopamine at certain sites (I had no luck pinpoin

If you want to help traffic, stop hitting your damn brakes so much. Brakes are for strong deceleration, and most deceleration in traffic can be handled by letting off the gas. Once you get good at this, follow as closely as possible in a tr

Mako's the best I've found. Templetor looks nice but is awful because (of all things) whitespace is significant! That's a no-go for a template system.

But what do you actually rewrite? Module upgrades, if done properly, are straightforward, and the phptemplate API is stable (themes).

That's the problem with most frameworks. The Auth looks nice but is a pain to implement just right ...Profiles are painful enough in Django. I've noticed that in the end you usually have to rewrite the core components, so it's better to ch

I'm surprised this has never been mentioned. web.py is my first choice for small ad-hoc websites these days over PHP - the Python standard lib is a huge plus and I've noticed that Python scales better than PHP on a small VPS. The foundation

'Twas a joke (I myself run a significant portion of by business through Basecamp so what you argue is pretty apparent). The "X is not a bank" thing is a joke about sites with cavalier attitudes toward security.

This is the sort of thing I'd be wary of using jQuery for. An activity like this demands high performance and the cruft added by jQuery is noticeable in tools like these that I've tested. contentEditable (and its IE relatives) is pretty eas
