I've always found pre-written CSS to get in my way, but then again, CSS is practically my first language (with clean, semantic HTML).

Fluff. Can someone explain why we're taking business advice from a college kid who's working on an embryonic startup, and other than that has only worked in internships? The red flag here is that the post does not relate any relevant busine

Actually, I meant that you can do very good work without defaults, as most designs require very different layout approaches. It takes far less time to build a layout from scratch than to override existing code. I notice that, for most devel

I find it hard to imagine that any experienced Web producer these days wouldn’t have some “sensible defaults,” or templates, to work from in Illustrator, Photoshop, or – more precisely – for developing HTML and CSS. Then he must have a we

Unfortunately, we can only have true separation of concerns in our software. American economic policy is intrinsically attached to partisanship, and this article is all about policy.

I was living off of the charity of friends. The charity of friends - do I make myself clear? I never applied for welfare or food stamps because - silly me - I thought that was for people who really needed it. This is the strongest point i

No need to apologize, that post was directed towards the crazies in the Ruby world. Good luck studying Ruby! It's a nice language.

I hope you didn't find any of the sarcastic implications to be persuasive in their own right...#9 is unadulterated BS. In any case, I'm happy to keep fanboys out of the PHP and Perl communities...we know our languages have profound flaws, b

I'm trying to figure out which answer would hurt competition most...maybe I should make the people who are overcharging feel one vote more comfortable (don't worry, haven't voted).

"Shut up, I'm at a public library, I don't have a choice." And hundreds of similar reactions to pretentious frontend web developers who assume that every computer is a personal one.

If there's anything I've noticed over the years when building websites, it's that customers care a ton about speed. I'd argue that it's the most important feature, followed by design. The more responsive your interface, the better. Now, y
