I am dubious of all the claims that say something designed to kill organic life is safe because it just means "safe at X dose". Like there isn't a pesticide made where I could drink a tablespoon of it and be fine. It just doe

I actually got punked during a demo because I wrote some terminal commands and stored them in the macOS notepad and didnt notice it had changed -- to —. When I copy and pasted them in it failed obviously so... yeah. If you have terminal com

It's crazy how many security vulnerabilities are just people pinging http endpoints in ways they didn't expect. You would think in order to "hack" a system in 2025 you would need to be doing some crazy computer science w

Only good reason would be for bulk log searching, but a lot of cloud providers will already capture and aggregate and let you query logs, or there are good third party services that do this. Pretty handy to search a debug_request_id or some

This seems cool if all you need is: call service -> Get response from service -> do something with response. How do you structure this for long running tasks when you need to alert multiple services upon their completion? Like what do

What does that mean, I have been on hiring committees before but don't even know what it would mean to "blacklist" someone. If you just mean not hire them at your company in the future I think the candidate will be fine with

It's probably even more effective than other industries. Most industries you have good/bad workers but in software there is a few engineers where you cannot lose them. Who cares about scabs/replacements/etc. like literal

We had a pretty huge "fake meat" funding craze in 2021. Beyond meat traded at >$200 for a bit, now it is $1. Not sure why it all burned out and disappeared.

Seriously, I love software but a geneticist/biologist would have been a fascinating career. DNA, evolution, etc. is insanely powerful and you are kind of reverse-engineering and tweaking it to get different outcomes, but like you point

I mean your being a bit obtuse if you don't think there was a stigma around criticizing the vaccine in 2021/22. Writing a LinkedIn/Facebook post about how the vaccine causes heart problems might result in you losing your job

Totally valid if you are just doing like the PCT in sections for fun, but for a sponsored grand adventure that you write books about I don't think section hiking is valid.

I was gonna say the same, it sounds like he did 17k miles in his first 8 years. That sounds tremendously far but it works out to ~5 miles a day. So either he was only walking for 2-3 hours a day or he was only walking every couple days. Aft

Ah that sucks. I would also guess that an attractive 28 year on a global walking adventure might have left a few kids in his wake. He should probably avoid 23andMe.

My dream is huge drones that get dispatched and harpoon dangerous drivers cars and fly away with them. "Oh a lifted truck with a modified exhaust just swerved onto the shoulder to pass me at 85mph, and there it goes"

They have done automated enforcement a few times and it always sucks because the systems don't use discretion. Someone going 40 in a 30 and swerving around other cars gets treated the same as someone going 40 when the road is empty. So

Exactly, if you visualize software as a bunch separate "states" (UI state, app state, DB state) then our job is to mutate states and synchronize those mutations across the system. LLMs are good at mutating a specific state in a sp

All the RTS games are underplayed nowadays. Starcraft 2 is maybe the most active still and has been all but abandoned by Blizzard. A good RTS has an extremely harsh learning curve and is not super monetizable. Someone would have to rethink
