I still feel miles away from trusting AI with my most ad-friendly queries. Things like: where should I eat? Who is a good plumber, etc. Maybe someone can explain to me how an AI would revolutionize that, it either requires I trust it’s opin

Even in death Ringo will be in Paul McCartney's shadow haha. A huge one for me is Mel Brooks, it is pretty rare for a celebrity death to have an impact on me but that one will.

I agree for questions that are impossible if you didn’t memorize the specific algorithm that solves them. This question and the others I tried to ask usually have a ton of possible solutions and someone who knows how to code or can at least

These demos all give me the same vibe as "we prevented aging in mice". It's really impressive and interesting but I don't think we should be worried about our jobs disappearing any more than what living to 200 will be li

I ran interviews at my last job. Most candidates struggled with basic algos like: write a function to check if a string is a palindrome. I can't imagine a candidate being: A. Someone who can solve engineering problems we can't wit

I agree, I think in the US we are blaming social media, Covid, global warming, etc. but what is really bugging me is what lies under all those things, a general feeling that just working hard and being a good person will no longer guarantee

Why not cut out the middleman and just give each child an AI slave to answer questions and do their work for them.

Here’s an optimistic take: AI gets so good at manipulating digital information that it makes going on the computer irrelevant. AI interfaces are so intuitive that the whole concept of learning to be “computer literate” goes out the window.

Shitty people ruin society at every level. Sure online scams are part of it but we have banks, locked doors, guns, an entire law enforcement and justice system etc. all to account for the small minority of humans who will hurt others given

The law doesn't seem to have much of a bite. I always assume something like illegally hiring minors or exploiting workers will be the end your business. Then it turns out to be a pretty manageable fine. Same thing with selling alcohol

Maybe try a complete change? Work in retail or landscaping or go back to school or something. Software can suck because we tie our self worth to being productive on a little screen. Sometimes I feel envious of people who don’t use computers

Makes sense that more specialized roles took less of a hit. I have to imagine the layoffs involved lots of generalists but they probably were not slashing their SREs.

Yeah I think it’s important to remember that we aren’t terrible failures, but the market has shifted completely. I’m entering my second month of looking really hard (30+ applications a month) and have only had a few interviews so far. For m

Yeh this was an ad riddled nightmare. I would call it more an example of how to subvert modern ad blockers than an example of great web design. The bullet point lists are literally broken up with targeted ads that look like relevant info to

Well it is an article implying we should get our dietary advice from 400 year old proverbs and historical texts about Rome so it might not be airtight.

Yeah that is why he said it is a bit of a lottery. 2 of 9 seems like a pretty solid success rate but that means even you (someone who has a knack for it) would need 4 solid efforts to have good odds at getting a winner. 4 failed attempts is

You don't need to go back to 1623. Talk to fishermen who have been working the same waters for 30 years, the decline is very apparent.

We learn and adapt to inputs on the fly. The current training process for an AI is separate from the process of interacting with one. An AI won't retrain itself in real time mid-conversation.
