I have a 14 year old and the content of social media seems to be what bums her out. She seems to be ingrained with the idea that she will never own a home, environmental disasters will be constant and the economy will be in shambles by the

Yeah you can't replace having great parents with anything. This is why our current solutions are failing so badly, but telling people they are responsible for their children's outcomes does not get as many votes as telling them th

I think it also has a weird effect on how you save money. I have been broke before and worked for < $15/hr from the ages of 16-25, but I came from a middle class family and always had the mindset that I would someday have money. I t

The health insurance industry makes more money than the oil industry. It isn't a coincidence that most of our taxes go to healthcare and the top grossing industries are all built around it.

It is a feature, interfaces between pieces of software is some of the most expensive and challenging parts of writing it. When every piece of software is written specifically with that interfacing in mind it will just run better. Now Apple

I think it is most repugnant when you are working really hard and (very slowly) building your life up. It was really easy to be charitable when I was young and working meaningless jobs for $15/hr and I had my whole life ahead, and it

I have seen people download 3d model file formats (stl) and position/scale them in front of them, and then walk around the 3d model. I am not sure if they added anything to the Vision Pro but it was pretty impressive. I would not be su

That isn’t really what the parent is talking about at all… If your issue is with the device requiring connection with an external account, Vision Pro requires an AppleID which will tie it to way more of your digital things than a Facebook l

This is 100% anecdotal and lacks any kind of research, but... I heard it was a more subtle propaganda. The American feeds could have messages about how bad the economy is, how futile working is in a corrupt system, how depressed and traumat

I agree with this in principal, but in practice it seems troubling to have every person (even beyond kids) hooked on a stream of info that is controlled by a foreign government who doesn't like us very much. If your plan is that people

Plastic is amazing if you consider the alternatives (glass and paper) and ignore the negatives. Don’t most microplastics come from textiles as well? Washing clothes could almost be a process designed to add micro plastics to water.

The amount of street sweeping is directly correlated with how much they can make ticketing cars that are parked in street sweeping zones. In San Francisco they sweep the streets daily and throw $70-80 tickets to any car caught during sweepi

How much do you think it would cost the city to implement something like this themselves? It would probably involve hiring 2-3 bike riders, a manager, some people to oversee/analyze the efficacy of the program, an approved supply chain

Why bother disputing claims about AI made by the CEO of a new AI startup. They are obviously going to be throwing lofty statements around about its capabilities.

They have to keep a human element, there is no way they can give the chatbot authority to do things like reset passwords, add users to accounts, issue refunds, etc. If they do that will be a hilarious attack vector for companies.

This all makes sense... Companies trade with market caps 20X their yearly earnings and get huge subsidies/bailouts from the government. Why would they court customers when the real money is in courting financial institutions.
