Dex is very cool. Mongo lends itself to adding fields and queries on the fly which has advantages in prototyping quickly, but the flip side is that many queries don't get optimized. Dex makes it much easier optimize later.

Forward ( http://getfwd.com ) employs conventions like this between the template and model layers of an MVC style framework. get("/accounts") // collection get("/accounts", [limit => 10, page => 3]) // pagination get("

Open source with a service is an exciting model, a lot of network effects but also greater up front investment. We are doing this with getfwd.com

To those that say Mongo's lack of transactions are a deal-breaker in e-commerce, I'd like to know more about this perspective. Can you be very specific? We've been running production e-commerce sites for many months now and haven't encounte

The platform has been in private development for almost a year and there are a lot of interesting parts to review. Let me know if you have any questions about it.

Cool idea! Here's my feedback: Feels like there is too much on the page that doesn't do anything. Since this is essentially a search box with a button and a result, I would eliminate almost everything on the page and focus all attention on

The code looks very cool. Great job on creating such a concise dialect. I would have fun experimenting with this, but that's probably as far as it would go as the massive number of people that are already comfortable HTML/CSS can't be ignor

We didn't find the lack of relational queries an obstacle at all. The model in Forward handles relationships in a way that makes it feel easy. Model fields can be defined as a callback: // class Accounts ... 'orders' => functi

There are ways to perform document-level transactions using optimistic or pessimistic locking, in our experience so far this has been sufficient for purchase tracking. I imagine our perspective will mature as we get the system into higher l

Only jQuery at the moment. The UI seems fast because MongoDB is very good with caching and speed in general, so it kind of feels like a client-side UI, but it's actually all server side rendering.

Definitely, the goal is to support all of the most common e-commerce models (standard, drop ship, subscription, private sale, etc) out of the box and free. There may be different default admin versions to start with also, but the admin is e

Generally logic that is good in a controller can be put in the template file instead. This idea came from the "Smart model, Dumb controller" concept. We made controllers so dumb, it was rather clean and easy to understand when combined with

Good question. Forward will start at the small-med level because that's where our experience lies. Today we see it as comparable to the early Magento, but more developer friendly. Time will tell, and we are very interested in offering an op

You get at the core of the issue here, which is that we can save developers a huge amount of time with the right mix of pre-built components and dedicated developer support. All of our paid options surround the idea that developers can go f

Ahh I see, there is no UI framework, just a simple list/view pattern. Views are loaded in HTML parts from the server (old school). I would like to see what people come up with using a framework like Backbone. One of the driving ideas is tha

You have a good point here, and we will share a lot more details around the template code on our blog soon. I hadn't heard specifically of BPEL but will check that out. We went with the MVC pattern to leverage ours and others' experience in
