It's been fascinating to follow this over the last few days. I almost think that in some ways, it's more exciting to see it happen via Twitter than it would be to watch it on video. I wonder why that is.

I disagree. Having someone to go out and make deals OR report back that the market isn't there, to pitch to investors, or to form partnerships with other companies is invaluable. Many of the great companies I respect the most here in SF a

I'm not suggesting letting them commit, or accepting their patch, etc. I'm suggesting not being an asshole to them, so that once they are better, they consider contributing.

People are not split into two buckets of talented and untalented. People learn, grow, get better (and worse) over time, and have emotions. That github pull request with crap code that "pestered" you could come from someone who turns out t

I can confirm this. When my co-founder and I told PG we were working on a mobile social network around movie trailers, he hated the idea, and told us we would have a hard time and that we should build more important technology. We wouldn't

So is every advertising network. This really isn't new, but it's certainly over-sensationalized.

This is such a cynical and negative comment. The only purpose it serves is to belittle the founder's motivations, as well as belittling YC's tireless efforts. Ugh, just thinking about such a negative comment has put me in a bad mood :(

Somewhat related: a friend and I built a game a lot like this as a Facebook app back in 2009 called Pictionnected. It had a few really passionate users. Didn't really iterate on it, got busy with work, and didn't maintain it when Facebook

Thanks for that feedback. After our initial Clutch.io launch, we got tons of feedback about our pricing. We've since made every plan more affordable for everyone, and we'll continue to listen to feedback about our pricing, making changes

1. Apps will function properly. It's been a design tenant from the beginning to never have an outage (or shut downage) by us negatively impact our customer's users. 2. We haven't 100% decided yet, but we're heavily leaning towards packaging

We launched Clutch.io about a month ago, and one thing that really surprised us was how many of our customers asked us to support A/B testing. So that's what we've been building! You don't have to use our Clutch Framework in order to use

A good chunk of the companies in YC have "pivoted" to the point of working on completely new ideas. Some of those pivots are very successful. So, it didn't really matter which idea they applied with, did it?

The distinction, as I understand it, is the "voice" the app uses. Chill said something like "Hey I just joined Chill and it's pretty cool, you should check it out!" First person. Socialcam says "John Doe has watched Rick Roll Video." Thir

I found this article to be very well-written. It's not the most intellectual topic, but I do feel like I've gotten a pretty good window into the lives of the founders.

The Cassandra project was in really bad shape when FB open sourced it, and it languished like that for several months before Jonathan Ellis picked it up and ran with it. Now it's a thriving Apache project, with contributors from many compa

> An asset isn't worth one billion dollars just because someone you know has a billion dollars to spend. Actually that's nearly the definition of what something is worth: how much someone is willing to pay for it.

Mongo was not designed with horizontal scaling in mind. Riak, Cassandra, HBase, Project Voldemort...these are the projects that were designed with horizontal scaling in mind (as evidenced by their architectures.) But not Mongo.

Fair enough. The thing is though, he posted it on the BodyHack blog. We may all be entrepreneurs here, but are all of their readers? I'd be cautious in judging him too much.
