Riak Search is a great example of the result of getting the fundamentals right up-front, proving and improving them in a concrete product (Riak), and then extracting the best bits into a reusable library (Riak Core). The way they've done th

Android is "good enough" now for lots of people, which shows in its sales. That Android owners can point at future products and get excited for upcoming features is just icing on the cake.

I'm curious, is there a backstory on how you came to own ww.com?

I liked this submission simply because it demonstrates the ridiculousness of such claims.

What actually surprises me about this is just how much faster V8 was (and really, still is) compared to all of the others. It also looks like they're starting to hit a point of diminishing returns. Here's hoping they're not!

Yeah, I think top engineers have realized that even if they don't succeed as a business, companies like Facebook will often buy them for their talent with more upside than they would have gotten being hired through the normal means. But at

A very interesting development from the guys at Basho, who've been on a tear recently. It looks to target the crowd who would have gone with MogileFS or something like it.

This looks really nice! I always struggle with my client-side js becoming a tangled DOM mess, and this looks like it could push me towards a much saner path.

Screencasts are such a time-intensive thing to record, especially high-quality ones like these seem to be. Great to see these being made, though, because for a lot of people visual learning is irreplaceable.

This is the most clear and well-written summary that I've seen of the tradeoffs presented by the CAP theorem. Hopefully it clears up a lot of the confusion out there. I think this is the tweet that prompted the post: http://twitter.com/Ja

This is so, so correct. I've been doing Facebook stuff for a few years now, and this rant is just the tip of the iceberg. Other favorites: * They accidentally flipped the switch to a new authentication mechanism overnight to a beta with no

I have to admit that if I were re-writing my blog post today, I'd add the "cultishness" to the list of reasons why Node disappoints me. It's really too bad, too, since at its core it's genuinely good technology!

Performance is not the same thing as scalability. A hello world app with a 10 second pause is scalable, but replace that pause with a logging statement and you've just traded scalability for performance.
