Something to consider, and something I got a vivid demonstration of while playing with solar panels, DC arcs aren't self-extinguishing, unlike AC arcs. At one point I stuck a voltage probe in, and the arc stuck with it as I pulled the

I think you’re massively underestimating the network effects in play. Steam has an enormous moat.

I don’t have a horse in this race, but my only point was you don’t have to wait 15 minutes for a really decentralized experience. Yeah, you do need to be ok with not being able to later chargeback your grocery store, just like with cash. Wh

Yeah, maybe just finding a small shop is the move. Surprising that they can get you something for less than buying direct can after their fee, though!

Doesn't lightning settle basically instantly, while still being decentralized? You're just trading signed transactions iirc, with settlement happening whenever.

Seriously. Have you tried Octopart? One of the very early YC companies, dedicated to electronics part search (I haven't used them recently, so no idea if they're good these days, just remember them from like a decade and a half ag

Maybe, I've never used a human travel agent. Based on my experiences with human agents in other industries (especially real estate), I think the LLM version will probably already know my preferences a good bit better than most human tr

Apparently I'm the only one here who finds it to be one of the worst things I ever have to do, I hate managing the combinatorial tab explosion by hand. Compounded by the adversarial nature of the price-setting algorithms that jack up t

Same, but it sounds like Lemmy still has some issues, and it'll be hard to replace some of the niche subreddits.

I’d been developing with emacs for years before I learned how to quit vi. Just means he’s never had to change the config on a remote server with a barebones setup :-)

Thanks for the confirmation, wasn't sure if I was just going a bit senile heh. Yeah, I love /r/localllama, some of the best actual practitioners of this stuff on the internet. Also, crazy awesome frankenrigs to try and get th

Yeah, I'd just be pretty surprised if they were getting 100 tokens/sec that way. EDIT: Either they edited that to say "quad 3090s", or I just missed it the first time.

Yeah, the other big benefit is that the Max-Q's have blowers that exhaust the hot air out of the box, the workstation cards would each blow their exhaust straight into the intake of the card behind it. The last card in that chain would

Not sure what you’re talking about, I scaled to millions of users on a pair of boxes with PHP, and its page generation time absolutely crushed Rails/Django times. Apache with mod PHP auto scales wonderfully.

The Google paper ( https://arxiv.org/pdf/2511.19468 ) didn’t seem too concerned with radiator mass/size when I skimmed it, but maybe I just missed it. My understanding is that if you run the chips relatively hot (an
