Same, I've only seen two ads since they started rolling them out. The first time, you could report them as spam, so I did so. The second time, months after that, I reported it as offensive. It might not make any difference, but I can s

Ah, yeah, I suspected it could be fixed with your first approach, but the second one also sounds plausible. But if you go with the first option, then you can end up locking the entire database, as you pointed out with `write(read(A), _)`. W

You can issue writes depending on reads, but are they performed in the same transaction? If I do `if(read(A) = 0) then write(B, 1) else write(C, 2)`, would that be executed in 1 or 2 transactions?

Yes, it has to do with the way Calvin handles transactions, which are required to declare their read and write sets before executing. These kind of transactions are also called static, and are normally of the type "I have this read

I had a similar realization when I read on STM performance[1], where almost all benchmarks showed considerable slowdowns for the parallel+stm implementations when compared against sequential solutions. [1]: http://queue.acm.org&#

Spark already does this. It classifies emails into "personal", "newsletters" and a few others — it will only notify you of personal emails.

Look into Pony's reference capabilities. To put it shortly, the compiler will guarantee that there are no data races through this system, and therefore the runtime is able to use shared memory and pointers for efficiency.

The performance of such a system really depends on what you can expect from it. If your system is distributed without full replication (and no overlap between nodes), then having offline nodes is easy - you just access to your local data, a

Those reasons are a bit outdated, you can certainly have add-and-remove crdts with or-sets, and you can do so with almost no garbage. One of the Tomtom engineers explained one approach at Strangeloop last month: https://www.youtu

That's exactly what Pony ( http://www.ponylang.org/ ) does. It has a gc, with all the actors in the system communicating through shared memory. It uses the concept of 'capabilities' to check the owner of any gi

About garbage collection, there is some research done in that direction: Logoot [0] is a collaborative text editor that doesn't depend on tombstones. [0]: https://hal.archives-ouvertes.fr/inria-00336191/

It's always good to hear about IOT companies using CRDTs because it seems like the perfect fit for it, yet you don't hear very much about it. Also interesting hearing you mention you were using plumtree for your replication backen
