There are a few issues. For me two of the most basic are 1) the lack of a ubiquitous NA across all data types and 2) lack of 754 floating point behavior. The lack of custom infix operators is also a bit painful, especially if you view matl

Where in the MIT license does it say you can't bar redistribution in your proprietary fork? That's obviously what everybody does when they use MIT code in their proprietary products? That's the whole point.

Units of measure has always struck me as a pet feature of F# that's only there because it happened to be what somebody's PhD dissertation was written on. Whether it is useful in practice is unclear. I saw Don Syme give a presentation where

Type Providers in the next version of F# should be another impressive feature. This will really change the way F# interoperates with data and Web APIs. Type providers make everything available, strongly typed, from intellisense with no vis

It's interesting how the F# team is pushing F# to be the language for data-rich programming. Their Type Provider concept looks promising, but some of their demos still are comically difficult coming from a R/Matlab/Python style of data-ric

I think you're looking for the MonoMac project. It's doubtful that you want to develop actual UI using WPF. Binding to native widget will give your app a much more integrated feel. http://www.mono-project.com/MonoMac

If you're interested in machine learning, it's hard to imagine how you will get beyond tinkering without an advanced degree. A PhD brings a depth and maturity when thinking about how to frame machine learning (statistics) problems, which I

There's a fair amount of overlap between them, so I'm not sure you'd want to use both. Backbone has a more integrated persistence layer, but that layer is pretty tied to the model. It wouldn't make sense to use that and use Knockout for th

I would try it. I'm using KnockoutJS plus CoffeeScript and it's hard to imagine how it could be much cleaner. I would never go back to using jQuery bindings for UI except maybe for the smallest little things.
