Whilst I like getting more control of my hardware, I really prefer if I can contain arbitrary software - sandbox it and compartmentalise it. If arbitrary processes can own your whole system, is anyone truly an owner?

I work with people who actively chose to go to conference in Berlin instead of the UK due to visa issues. The passport control is a real issue one cannot just handwave away.

It is a lot harder to travel into England from outside of the United Kingdom than it is to travel from England to Scotland or Wales. For one, I do not need a passport to get on a train to Scotland. Nor do I need a visa.

Ye, and how do you get source code from devs into that silo?

Storing the secret on a hardware token will most certainly help with not committing into source control.

I love how during prototyping, the compiler will tell me off for having an unused variable and fail to compile. I totally love the idea of crashing when writing on a closed channel.

Systemd is not 1 giant thing that does 100000 things - it is a collection or 10000 services doing 10000 things, integrating amongst themselves where practical. You need not use networkd, logind, resolved or any other one piece of the system

It gives you a sense of control, for one. I could repurpose existing software to do most of the things I program myself on my own time. Ikea is way cheaper than most things you can make yourself, but you end up planning around commodity fur

There is a dollar amount I am willing to pay to elude suffering- and there is an amount I will not. Try sitting on a floor for weeks and you will see the dollar amount you want to pay for a couch. And try booking a long haul flight- see wha

Futures would be less of a problem if async was implemented as effect handling instead of coloring functions - I am truly miffed about e.g. not being to use `or_insert_with` with a fallible async function. That and build sandboxing are my 2

Not only that, the charger thing also implies charging it weekly if not more often. I got a pebble watch because I can wear it for 2 weeks without charging. Would hate to have to charge a ring.

One might argue that these people will not understand the code they write if they use LLMs. I would counter that with my observation that plenty didn’t understand the code they wrote before LLMs too.

Large file uploads are non-resumable. That is, if you have any videos at a decent bitrate and resolution, you need to be able to upload the whole file in a single session. iOS doesn't make this easy to do via background uploads. I uplo
