It also disregards the type of lottery game that is a part of wealth accumulation. Of course, it is not all luck but to believe wealth accumulation is a type of purely deterministic meritocratic game without a giant stochastic factor is rid

A big problem is we have gone from Feynman saying "science is the disbelief in experts" to "What experts say is true right now is the science".

I was pretty into that level of skepticism but all it really showed me is that people are natural "believers". We are ultimately story telling apes. To believe we are going to stop telling each other and ourselves fictional storie

I would think it all depends on the initial energy source. This is just one of the myriad of ways our malinvestment in cheap nuclear energy condemns us to try to build a type of perceptual motion machine.

I suspect people of the future will view our view of the jumble of heuristics as a type of medieval place holder for the "soul". Most people are just interchanging the word "consciousness" in place of "soul" bu

All you have to do is get use to initiating conversation with strangers out and about. People have no problem swiping literally every person on Tinder/bumble but I have had lovers specifically tell me that no one ever hits on them in p

If anything this is why someone like LeCun isn't good at shipping a product people want. It seems like we lack a word in English for knowing too much about a subject that you can't see the forest for the trees. To say chatGPT is n

IMO you should just start playing with them. Midjourney gave by far the most impressive results with images but I also got bored fast with seeing amazing art. chatGPT you just have to interact with it and get a feel for its strengths and we

We really need this to be legal someplace in the world. Fentanyl at this point makes any street pill an insane proposition to me. I am surprised a country hasn't already embraced a type of psychedelic and MDMA drug tourism. Fentanyl ul

5 grams is the idiotic recommendation from Terence McKenna that people blindly follow because he was a good writer and had an almost psychedelic stand up routine with public speaking. He was basically a type of cult leader. It is absolutely

You must have not thought this through very hard to believe it wouldn't be a net good. I mean we are in a crisis of opiates with fentanyl. It would be a massive net good.

The idea technology is completely neutral is obviously stupid and obviously wrong. Neil Postman has two amazing books on this subject. It is not even that technology is good or bad, any technology will have good and bad aspects but the main

All this to me is pure technological kitsch and bullshit. My coffee maker has had automation built in for years, it makes a ton of sense for it to automatically make coffee in the morning yet even for free I have never used it even once. Th

I think people underestimate how often their cover letter is a negative even without this. I wouldn't doubt that often the cover letter causes people to be eliminated in about 5 seconds because it says the same meaningless bullshit tha

This is typical bad financial journalism. Spitznagel is not "predicting" this. Jennifer Sor either has no clue what Spitznagel is doing or knows no one will click on a headline about tail hedging unpredictable events.

IMO this whole nonsense argument stems from poor high school economics education and not teaching Schumpeter in high school. Per Schumpeter a 100 years ago, the economy is an ever changing process from technological change and entrepreneurs

The whole argument is stupid on both sides. There is no "mainstream" culture anymore to counter. Everyone is living in their own little cultural bubble that they believe to be a counterculture to a non-existent mainstream culture.

I don't see how AR will be useful without face recognition. The killer app is something like I go get a coffee and instantly know the barista's real name and they know my real name from AR face recognition. People are not interest
