I’m also a fan of Tasting History. Highly recommended.

Not necessarily. If single core speed doubled but we also doubled or tripled the number of cores, doesn’t that count as keeping up with Moore?

Or have gadgets become incredibly cheap? 99 cent iPhone apps etc?

Agreed. If I use an LLM to generate fairly exhaustive unit tests of a trivial function just because I can, that doesn’t mean those lines are as useful as core complex business logic that it would almost certainly make subtle mistakes in.

Sounds like a huge infusion of cash to highly skilled workers, and supporting the building of skills that can be transferred between companies sounds like a good thing.

> if they stopped research and just focused on productionizing inference use cases I think they’d be profitable For a couple of years, until someone who did keep doing research pulled ahead a bit with a similarly good UI.

It would be great if there was a "GDP + non-transactional economy" metric. Does one exist, or is there a relatively straightforward way to construct one?

I completely agree. Note that according to https://www.usinflationcalculator.com/ 200k in 2025 is equivalent to about 160k in 2020 when the pandemic began, and 160k would've been on the low end for an experienced softw

Anyone out there feel like making an app that fixes the distortion and then fills in the missing edges of the rectangle with generative ai? I’d sure enjoy using such an app.

I wonder to what extent a non LLM system with access to the same original corpus of text would do, with some simple similarity search feature across the corpus?

Competitors just need to wait for OpenAI to burn all their free money and dig themselves a debt hole they can’t easily climb out of, and then offer a similar experience at a price that barely breaks even or makes a tiny profit, and they win

Even if supersonic flight were 2.4x less fuel efficient than regular flights, based on Concorde vs other aircraft, if that translated into 2.4x ticket prices, a lot of people would still pay it. $1000 vs $2400 to get to Europe in 6 hours in

Atherosclerosis is, as I’ve read, a major cause of age related disease and death, so finding a cause and solution like this could be a major advancement in increasing healthspan. Another step toward longevity escape velocity.

Folks may not know about the jobs, or there might be other details that aren’t mentioned here that make them less interested, for example are there occasionally big chunks of being unemployed, is the work dangerous, is the work stable, etc.

The stats are rigged and biased by not counting the types of work men do, and if they did count it they wouldn’t reach the “right” conclusions so wouldn’t be published. This is written about quite a bit.

Agreed. I think if fare evaders were kept off it would reduce the need for monitoring significantly, and rather than continuous monitoring, some other less invasive means of detecting destruction in progress could be found.
