Clojure and Janet are great options. To these recommendations I would probably add Racket (it's used a lot as a teaching language and has tons of cool experimental features) and Hy (for when you need to write python in lisp form).

> It really was a very simple, well put together language This is the very premise that I question. Simple in comparison to what? Javascript? I'd actually put python and javascript more or less in the same ballpark of complexity (ne

In the context of programming language design, a lisp like Clojure would be simple if you ignored all the java things. Haskell is a simple-ish language (despite popular misconceptions). For me, “simple” needs to be distinguished from “famil

I hate when people say "python is a simple language" when having this opinion requires ignoring everything about how python is designed (more like patched together), and requires using some non-standard definition of "simple&

No, when people owe money to the bank, that's an asset on the bank's balance sheet. That's the opposite of a liability. Companies will purchase the bank's assets, because the bank's assets (which are your liability)

I am not aware of this happening for such overtly conflicted reasons in Canada/UK/Australia/US/Europe/etc countries... That would be messed up, considering all the risks and consequences (although weighing all the r

I don't think these products are directly comparable. I think Final Cut Pro probably maps better to Adobe Premiere Pro... But even then, it's not a complete overlap. There are things you can easily do in Premiere that you can'

Agreed 100%, and I hear Final Cut Pro has much better performance. But realistically, a lot of work happens on Adobe or other (Autodesk, Houdini, etc...) products that also have their own issues.

And of course all of the above may be "peanuts" for professional studios, but I am not aware of any hardware/workflow/money/things you can throw at the problem to make the editing and production experience smooth. T

You'd be surprised at how much buffering and loading is needed to just playback 1080p content (even directly from your local machine's built-in SSD) in the video editor before it's rendered. It's incredibly frustrating

In inflation-adjusted terms, it’s not that exciting: so do other fixed assets that aren’t you lending a random bank cash, such as US/Canada treasurys / government bonds. The point is that these other instruments don’t have the s

I haven’t provided any references because this area of research has actually been booming over the last two decades, and there are dozens of recent high-quality review articles to be found on the subject. Which is really what my point was:

It’s not necessarily the perceived brightness that I am worried about. Illuminated surroundings outdoors on a sunny day are obviously perceived to be brighter than any screen… But here we have a flickering light source that is microscopical

IMO (biochemist) the clinical relevance of these findings, when considered along with the rest of the medical literature, are vastly understated.

Set theory has traditionally been used as the foundation of maths from which you can model everything else. See the Bourbaki project. (Nowadays it seems there are a lot of people interested in type theory taking that place.)

I just don't understand people who call von neumann style programming languages "lisp-like" or "almost a lisp". I've heard people say this of python and haskell as well, and I just don't see it, at all.
