I don't think the physical stores lasted long, they eventually were sold off to ComputerLand, possibly as part of a consent decree (before my time). A lot of bad business decisions at IBM start with the various consent decrees it opera

OS/2: decent OS, ahead of Windows for awhile, but IBM was never going to go to the mattresses enough to get it the install base it would need to compete with Windows. IBM's dysfunctional PC division didn't help. It would hav

Pensions in the U.S. have always been a bit of a balance sheet scam. With few exceptions companies were allowed to comingle pension assets with the companies' day to day funds with a chunk kind-of fenced off. But the pension fund was f

No, IBM had defined-benefit pensions, with 401ks as supplemental. In 2000 they announced that they would do away with pensions entirely for anyone not within N years of retirement (I don't recall at this point, possibly 5 or ten years)

Many country TLDs require the registrant to be domiciled in the country. And the degree of domicile/nexus widely varies, from simply having an address, to having a physical presence. If you're just starting out you simply may not

Congress must pass a bill to revoke the US sanctions, which is a separate act of legislation from assenting to this deal. There are several Executive Orders which Obama can revoke but the embargo proper is embedded in US legislation. http

Not listing the compensation means that many potential applicants never even saw the role. It's 2015 yet many of these job sites will not display a role if one (as the potential applicant) has specified a salary range but the listing d

This will be the toehold DoJ and the FTC need to file antitrust charges against Apple, if it’s true that iAds cannot be blocked, and continue to be only acquirable through Apple’s process and not on the various ad exchanges.

This is a poorly written article. If Philadelphia truly needs more cabs, then Uber can't be blamed for the collapse in medallion prices since it's clearly NOT filling a market need. In New York City, where the medallion owners are

I couldn't find any sub-regional breakdowns for this year’s census data yet. I assume they’ll appear at the second link eventually. Speculating but based on living here: much of the population growth has been in Brooklyn and "inn

That does seem to be outpacing growth in both the City and metro area. The City is now at approximately 8.5MM people [1], the metro area has approximately 20.1MM people. The City had 8.17MM people in 2010[2], so just a hair under 5% growth

Finance is still a dominant sector in NYC but has been dropping since the late 1990s (accelerated post 9/11, but there's been a long term trend of back-office jobs being eliminated or moved out of the metro area).
