I definitely buy the core the thesis of HyperNormalisation, but I find it equally likely the CIA/deepstate would push a narrative that all those UFOs that started popping up right around the time we were getting nuclear off the ground

I used to feel that way. I’ve also expected much broader democratization of production from 3D printing. It’s possible software is just not there yet, but I think network effects and de facto cartels are an equal or greater force against t

Maybe I'm a joy-kill, but, I really find the April Fool's tradition of ruining the internet for one day every year pretty unfortunate.

Consensus in this thread seems to be that this is a neat gimmick but nothing else. Maybe because I have a friend working on a video game as a solo developer, and putting a /lot/ of energy/money/time into art--I really se

I don't find the author's reasoning in the related article[1] that its not a solar sail very convincing. I am not an astrophysicist, but, the author plainly admits that the measurements are within expected bounds of a solar sail.

I think it’s very dangerous to tell people not to go around claiming the internet is doomed. People doing that appears to have been the very thing that built the consensus to stop the legislation.

I went back and learned a lot of math recently. I found the 3Blue1Brown youtube channel to be hands down the most useful for developing intuition. I honestly don't think there is better mathematical content than his being made.

I use ddg as my primary search. I haven’t counted but my gut says I do a second search on google ~40% or more. I like ddg, i support them, but for any but the most basic queries google is a solid tier above.

Actually, I would say Yelp is far worse than it was 5 years ago. Not sure how much fault it is of Yelp's, but reviews aren't really worth as much today as they were in Yelp's early days.

Vermont legalized but set up no tax structure. Legal to grow and gift, but not sell. There was a lot of pressure to get it legal, a veto from the governor, and apparently no consensus on how to tax/license it.
