That's the equivalent of $50000 in Purchasing Power; so it's not as bad. Although to be fair, a lot of commodities appear to cost a lot more in India, because they are tied (legally or otherwise) to the outside world (blame Indira

What's even more fascinating is that ISRO survived at all, through the cold war. The fact that India has a fledgling space program, despite its problems, strikes me as rather inspiring. The fact that it was done cheaply stems partly fr

I know jargon looks unsurmountable at first, but if you pay close attention to definitions, they are usually extremely simple. To wit, the example you quote is just the set of strings on X.

I would also add parametric types to that list. I've always found it really annoying not to be able to define a type like "array" with element-type, dimensions and things (other than the global variable hack). Did you mean Sc

That's mostly because we get annoyed when we see old things being marketed as "new" and "hip" :) That's not proselytizing, that's snobbery.

The prefix-notation is annoying when you're doing anything mathematical. It's sad that CL doesn't come with a infix reader by default, I'm sure there is one on quicklisp.

The big difference between Scheme and CL is probably that the former encourages recursion, hygienic macros and is a Lisp-1. Moving from CL to Scheme is very annoying for this very reason. The lack of portability and a SLIME-like IDE doesn&#

Learning CLOS from "The Art of MOP" is a stupid idea. Sonya Keene's book is far more suitable, and also rather unnecessary. Onlisp is a useful resource: http://www.paulgraham.com/onlisp.html . ANSI CL is nice
