I don't think he should have done any time for the drug-related charges. And 10 years is more than enough for a murder-for-hire in which nobody got hurt. So this seems... just.

I think the author is simply wrong is their assumption. I'm pro-homeschooling, more or less fit the described profile and I don't see a slightest problem with my kid interacting with average people nor do I have contempt for them.

Not only the article doesn't answer the question in the title, it doesn't even attempt to support the premise. Instead, it's just a book ad. As for staying small, how are you going to pay the politicians to enact regulations

It's not pedantic at all. They cost so much less that it renders the entire calculation meaningless. Almost all of the cost of a consumer VPN account is user acquisition (a cost they don't bear in this case). Operations cost peanu

Less censorship on Facebook and less regulations sounds like a good thing (doubt the latter will happen anyway). The problem with Facebook has never been that it allows harmful content. It's that it actively promotes it.

I was waiting for some sensible explanation of Russia's "economic miracle" and this sounds at least somewhat satisfactory. Let's hope the theory is true and the debt crisis comes soon enough.

I'm not convinced introverts and extroverts even exist. All people have a need for company and a need for solitude. Depending on how well each of these needs is satisfied you may feel one or the other way. Most of the time I see people

I've recently experienced a sharp decline in my ability to remember anything code-related. At one point I looked at the code I wrote the day before and it felt as if I don't even know the language it's written in. I was attri

Since this is a contract position, do you consider part-timers by any chance? I'd really like to do what you do and I think I could make a solid case on why I'm the man for this job, but I'm booked for 2 days a week for the n

Not really. Education sucks because it doesn't scale. Every single child needs to be educated and educating them takes thousands (or tens of thousands) of hours of teacher work. Meanwhile an average person probably requires only tens o

I don't remember believing in any tech utopia for a very long time. On the other hand I regularly see people who still believe we are a few years away from AGI creating one for us. So while it's over for the author it's not s

I'd rather work for a leader with a strong product vision. Their job is to know where we are going. How we get there is what I'm being paid for.

Russian-controlled is an overstatment, but it's definitely Russian-influenced. There seems to have been some kind of balance - Durov allowed the Russians some limited control in exchange for being allowed to operate in Russia. The publ

There's nothing funny or wrong about this argument. In a democracy, law is a community consensus. In a tyranny it's just a rule set up by the tyrant for everyone to follow (but never followed by the tyrant himself and his gunmen).

Ukrainians use Maxim guns to shoot down ICE-propelled Shaheds. Pretty hard to saturate that. You generally want to saturate the more advanced systems.
