I completely agree that most startup founders are going to be making sacrifices and using all the resources available. If you are expecting anything to come out of your startup you better be really committed to it. I'm against that school o

I don't understand why the idea that you should try and gain a competitive advantage by stretching yourself beyond limits is so popular in the startup community. Not resting properly (be it vacation or daily sleep) hurts your productivity a

Very interesting read. Website valuation multiples dropped very rapidly as value-per-visitor increased. Care to share some specific numbers?

Nice work! The speed is particularly impressive. I'm not in the target audience, so take this with a grain of salt: 1. You might want to feature some of the better-looking deals on the front page. At first I was confused as to what kind of

As someone who lives in Eastern Europe (Belarus) and has been a heavy and analytical user of dating websites (in fact there is only one in the Russian-speaking part of the Internet) I can say this: 1. Your assumption is false (it's the same

This was my favorite subject for a while and I arrived to a similar idea of transformation, except without nanobots: the computer becomes a continuation of your brain and then your biological brain is gradually killed cell-by-cell. However,

That manifesto sounded really bitter. Nobody's judging you for having no passion for programming. But the thing is programming is a craft many people are passionate about and those people are an order of magnitude more productive than you.

Customer experience is only a means (however important) to better business performance. Even the article title suggests that it's considered in that context. And frankly, I fail to see what other context can there be. But more importantly,

The conventional wisdom that asking for credit card on free trial signup is bad for conversion is hardly an established fact. Sure, more people will fill out the form (which is admittedly the point of this article), but whether or not you'l

The idea that mental illness is nothing more than a label we give to those with a different perception of the world is extremely naive. I used to subscribe to it too until I saw what schizophrenia looks in real life. I don't think I've ever

IIRC the point of using a subdomain is to get rid of cookies so that the server can cache the static content efficiently. This is entirely different. Looks like the trick described in this article lets you "host" your static content on G

Are you referring to the fact that the browser will interrupt your tracking request because it already started loading the linked page? I haven't really tried, but I believe this can be dealt with if your server-side code expects it to happ

I don't see how this could be a result of simple mistake. There doesn't seem to be any reason to do redirects this way except hiding the referrer.

Why not just launch your own small one? What you'll want to know the most is how to get from zero to something and buying an established site won't teach you that. It took me just a day to implement http://notsharingmy.info/ and I've lea

Fair enough, though I'd say for something coming from the search company these examples are a bit weak. But more importantly, what they demonstrate is that social search is useful . While I don't think I'll be searching for "awesome thin

We all know very well that social context is the next revolution in web search I honestly would like to see some actual argument supporting this beyond "search was revolutionary, social was revolutionary, therefore social search will be r
