I can't really see any lying being done here. Is microsoft lying to people when it's selling windows 7 home edition to people for less money than the ultimate edition even though it wouldn't cost them any more to make copies of the ultimate

In case anyone is interested, I just did this mod for my hd555s and can confirm that it does seem to make the sound clearer although I can't really make a good comparison for obvious reasons.

the point of adding a salt to the passwords is not to make decrypting the individual passwords harder - the salts are kept in plaintext - but to make it impossible to prevent the use of rainbow tables. that is, having longer salts will only

the difficulty of the calculations is adjusted so that 50 bitcoins will be released every 10 minutes. so this would only affect the distribution of bitcoins, not generation speed.

For the overlaping keychords problem, I've found that it helps if I bind my window manager actions to the Super_L (the windows button). I've also mapped that to the capslock key for easy access. As practically no programs use the windows ke

Multiplication is a bit more general thing than that. Take multiplication of fractions, for example. You can't express that as the number of discrete blocks in a M by N rectangle. Of course you could generalize M*N to mean "the surface area

This sounds more like a case of people not understanding what proving by induction is (and as a consequence, not doing so) rather than them proving by induction and and not understanding what they are doing.

those utilities are often used shell scripted to run many times in a row. at least in interactive use, the multiplied startup times can grow annoyingly long.

Even though it's really cool to have all these symbols available in fonts, I can't really see a reason for them other than decoration. I mean, no one writes in hieroglyphs do they? It would be really interesting to hear what people actually

I actually had a similar reason for switching to das, a layout optimized for the finnish language. I was starting to get wrist pain while typing, started to take notice of my posture and switched to typing with das. Typing feels more natura

I understood the maxing out to mean "more than enough" so that increasing it won't add more value. Of course, that is also quite an arguable point but for most people it's valid.
