I'm so happy to hear that! I've always loved this little book (even if it's completely independent of the math needed for my work). In a similar spirit, but with a much more geometrical flavor, there is Evans-Gariepy.

If you :set autoindent you'll never need to indent using the tab key. Indentation happens automatically as you write code. In the very rare cases where you need to change the indentation of a line, there's == or, if that doesn&

Brian, on the other hand, has an excellent, powerful posture: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tc4ROCJYbm0 (see from 4'10). Feet on desk, keyboard on lap, reclined seat, talking about unix filters.

It certainly can. Since more than 20 years ago! I remember that in 2003, as a "little kid", I changed my configuration from latin-15 to utf8 and it was already supported. You can read here an explanation of how xterm handled ill

There's #gnuplot on libera, which is a bit slow, but still faster than waiting for a relevant post in HN to ask your questions.

Isn't this a bit off-topic for this thread? Anyways, as a user of the three, I find that the main advantage of gnuplot is that you can do simpler plots more easily than with the others, as there's often no boilerplate needed. I d

No need of cat. You can use filename "-" to mean standard input: seq 1 10 | gnuplot -e 'plot "-"'

> not having exact integers What do you mean? Floating-point arithmetic is, by design, exact for small integers. The result of adding 2.0 to 3.0 is exactly 5.0. This is one of the few cases where it is perfectly legitimate to compare

What's the problem with ".PHONY" ? Just the name ? Would it be alright for you if it had a different name, like "INTERFACE" or "COMMANDS", or "NOFILE" ? I never thought about .PHONY as a workar

Thanks for the clarification. The talk page of the wikipedia article that I linked already shows that this is quite a "hot" topic. These scientific controversies are really fun to follow. In mathematics there's not as much

Both mathbbm and mathbb are wrong for number sets. These fonts look like the blackboard hack that you use to simulate boldface using chalk. On a computer you don't have this problem and you can simply use mathbf (actual boldface).

It is largely considered bad and misleading style. Why would you ever hide that a variable is a srruct? Better to keep typedef only for basic types and for function pointers.

There are not too many types to begin with. Ints and floats and that's pretty much it.

If you are going to recompile everything statically into a new target, why don't just build an αpε? It seems like a more elegant and clean solution.

But it does, doesn't it? You add the "twocolumn" option and recompile. Unless your LaTeX is too fancy this will tipically give a very good result (at worst, some figures with hardcoded sizing will be awkardly placed).
