I thought your comparison w/ Emacs was apt. When analysed as an interactive application Oberon makes me think the most Acme, then Emacs. I'm struggling with defining the genuine distinctions between operating system, application s

Some network protocols for live audio performances do this. Filling the audio buffers with some predicted blocks of audio to avoid an ugly sounding gap. See for instance in this Thesis: "Low-Latency Audio over IP on embedded IP systems

Such a linked-list using a linear pool of nodes is still useful if your algorithm makes many inserts and/or removals. The leap you're making here is about how distant the memory addresses should be in general. This is entirely dep

Using linked-list is not such an issue if nodes are not allocated with the general purpose allocator, and instead are allocated from a pool of memory addresses next to one another.

Good insight, I actually was wondering if the choice of the object (Emulator) was a good or bad one. You're making a good case that it reduces the effect of initial design discovery since it's based on well known hardware.

Don't you think this could just be attributed to you having gained experience? I look at my code from 10 years ago and it is written with objects and late dispatch as main modeling tool and that code is terrible.

Methodology wise this approach is problematic, because as a refactorer he gets to stand on the design discoveries made by the original programmer.

I wasn't disagreeing! My reasoning is as follows. Since evaluating coverage in terms of the state space of the program is hard, and no tools that I am aware of is actually calculating that coverage, tools that display coverage in terms

Some people are definitely in the camp against syntax highlighting. Some examples: 1. Linux Akesson (LFT) wrote an article quite some time ago about it: http://www.linusakesson.net/programming/syntaxhighlighting/

That is why I'd rather focus on a tool that would show lack of coverage and certainly would not even say percents of coverage, as it tricks people into getting that number to 100% and stop at that
