Reminds me of an issue I've been dealing with. The bluetooth in our car picks my wife's phone every time. Not a big deal, one might think, but then if I turn off bluetooth on her phone, it turns right back on and reconnects! I

I was thinking of this generally. I've built hundreds of websites and while many had plenty of similarities, there would still be a plethora of databases and languages to support. And that's just my own history. There are quite

This worked well for me also. Main difference was that my shift with the baby was between 11pm and 7am and then I would go right to sleep. I had my day split for 8 hours sleep, 8 hours work, 8 hours with the baby. This allowed both my wif

You could potentially keep a website "on a bookshelf at home" as well, provided the database is small enough. It doesn't even need to be SQLite. No matter the data format, you could get a fully running website on a raspberr

This reminds me of a story from a couple years ago (pre-covid). I dropped my brand new phone before my case arrived in the mail and cracked the screen. We were on our way to the movie theater and so I decided to drop off my phone to get i

I remember those! A family friend had one and he called them the "Oh Shit" handles! I had a blast riding back there for short trips. I think I was 12 or so. The 80s and early 90s were a very different time.

It's a strange claim - to say it's a terrible idea. I've been programming for over 20 years and I've been using a font with ligatures for nearly a year now. For me, personally, it increases legibility and clarity. I f

> Splitting the email and password form across two screens. Just wanted to note that Google handles this right, which I've always appreciated. They have two-screen login, and if you use a password manager, the password is prefilled

Very interesting. I just scripted something like this for our team before the holiday, and would much rather use this tool than maintain the script I threw together in the long term.

If you google "Sneakers streaming", there are several services that are streaming it for a price. There are surely other ways to watch it as well. It's definitely worth a watch. I love both (as well as The Matrix and Hacker

I don't have any evidence this is the case, but my general assumption is that there are humans there as well. Since people only get a chatbot, they ask simple questions the chatbot can answer, which weeds out a lot of support requests.

Some excellent advice in this thread. One thing that I was fortunate to learn early on, as I've been working from home for 20 years, that many should consider now that they are as well, is that it's ok to befriend people at work

This is the first alias I create on any os I use daily. Although I order the switches as `halF` as it's easier to remember for quick one-off use on servers (and containers). It's practically muscle memory for me now.

This is right. It's not Facebook that ate the media's lunch, it was craigslist, ebay, and any marketplace that allows free listings. They've been trying to make up that revenue ever since. Subscriptions were always a pitta

My original cast iron pans. I bought this no-name set of three from a small family-run neighborhood hardware store in Brooklyn for $20 somewhere around 2002. The guy behind the counter was surprised by the price and that they even had cast

Overall I think this is reasonable, but the font I'm using on my ide has ligatures and I think they provide a vastly better reading experience.

Far too many sites seem to do this with bank account numbers, where you can't paste into the account number OR the confirmation field. Now I need to drag my tab to another window and type it out (twice) and then read and confirm it. I
