CL is obviously in their full rights to do so, but I really wish they could have waited a couple weeks before they did it. I'm moving to another state this Tuesday and PM is especially helpful when you don't know the neighborhoods.

Not really interested in this specific argument about whether or not the OP has real statistics, but I thought this was interesting (and includes sources, which I haven't checked). http://www.catalyst.org/publication/256/buying-power htt

I can't imagine anything more apt than a conversation about this subject on a forum made up of people who hold their own intelligence in a high regard. I assure you that your definition of "stupid" is short-sighted. I've pre-judged a good

While I generally agree with and recommend getting an accountant, I've found a personal satisfaction over the past 8 years of doing my own taxes (10 years of freelance development). It can be tedious and confusing, but it forces me to stay

Absolutely. I certainly understand Why it works the way it does. Especially when dealing with 3rd party modules, it's good to be explicit about which version of a submodule should be included. But having a setting that allows me to keep

Solid points. To add to your safety point regarding flying cars: as bad as people are at driving in 2 dimensions, I can't imagine how horrible we would be driving in 3.

This is exactly why I call downtown (in New York and Chicago, at least) a suburb. I grew up in the city (Chicago and Brooklyn). The local city folk do NOT live in the city center. It's mostly tourists and people from the suburbs or out o

The hard part is finding the "well-written source code". Sure there are plenty that have been battle-tested for years, which we can refer to, but every day we come across tens to hundreds of github links. Some are legible. Some are cleve

Back when I was on Windows (Went 100% linux about a 18 months ago), I had one favorite tool that I still miss to this day called TimeSnapper [1]. The underlying concept is pretty simple. It takes a screenshot every x seconds, allowing you

It's a lazy mistake. The tools are provided by way of a command or two on just about any platform available to any programmer. Hashing information and matching against said hash are problems that have been solved and simplified in as many

I started out with bzr-git a long time ago for small one-off projects where I wasn't getting too deep into the process. Well, that's not true, when I First dug into DVCS, I tried all three, and since I was on windows back then (all-linux,

Far more than security. Most of society is built on the honor system. In half-full bar at an hour when there isn't a bouncer (usually before 9pm in NYC), the only thing keeping twenty or thirty people from pouring their own booze for free
