I'm more surprised folks fell for the "take it or leave it" gambit.

I've settled on Go to replace a worn out Java mess (otherwise a Python shop). We need the computational performance, and I do like the general feel of the language. I think this is something you're going to see a lot of going forward. It's

Don't forget about Denver! Lots of interesting stuff going on here. Between Tech Stars and Galvanize, things are really amazing around here.

Suicide is a very narrow thing, however. It's also not necessarily related to "loneliness". The article is (using research) making the argument that loneliness affects medical outcomes for people. Is there a causal link between loneliness

Not just CS, there are a handful of disciplines doing well. For instance, there is a huge shortage of Accounting academics these days. They're basically writing their own ticket.

So Kiera, I think what is being done to you is a gross abuse. I could not agree more.

I'm finding the locations for rides to be very confusing. I searched for "Denver, CO" and there are a number of people offering rides. It says "Los Angeles -> Denver", which would seem to mean it starts in Los Angeles and ends in Denver

Not at all. When we have an opening I get dozens of those a day. I honestly skim them to see if there is any relevant information (there usually isn't)... and then go straight to the resume. So the language just doesn't register with me, at

That lock-in is on the bonus Google offers, not the payout on equity. At least in the two acquisitions I've been privy to details about.

If you're interested in how this works from a behavioral standpoint, this is a very interesting study: http://digital.library.unt.edu/ark:/67531/metadc5130/m2/1/hi...

I think this is really it. There has no question been a very marked migration to urban centers by younger folks. We're all watching eagerly to see if they'll stay in the cities once they reach their family years.

Exactly this. The first draft of that sentence included something about big fines on the very first offense. Then I realized it would be rather impractical and unfair. Sometimes you screw up. This is about "screwing up" alot, to the point t

This is my biggest issue with the DMCA. Issuing a take-down notice for content you do not own should result in large fines. Maybe you get a couple of false positives, but at some point you have to be accountable for this stuff. If you wan

You can generally count on built-in formulas to be correct, which might have to be recreated in a different language;* At one point, at least, this wasn't true. At Quickoffice we ran into all sorts of problems implementing functions

People buy Condo's all the time. Also, in the United States, you very often give up mineral rights. So you may own the "ground" your home is on, but you don't own whatever comes out of it.

I certainly do now. I was 22 when my first computer was stolen. Didn't really worry about it then.

I've had 3 computers stolen from me in my life. Twice out of my car, and once when my house was broken into. Just once I wish a thief had been this dumb.

I remain absolutely flummoxed that we've never gotten another KOTOR. It's really the most baffling decision...ever.

Man I had forgotten about the LucasArts games of my youth...more accurately I had forgotten they were made by Lucas Arts. Now I'm actually a bit sad.

Test I've previously conducted as part of product development. I've, anecdotally, have heard similar reports from others as well when we've shared data. Are you sure your two year old didn't watch you first?

In usability tests you'll see that pinch-to-zoom is hardly discoverable, or even particularly easy. It's a learned behavior. Once users "get it", it's powerful. They'll attempt to pinch to zoom all over the place. I guess I don't see how th

Except it can be a fantastic way to launch a company. Social proof, publicity, and credibility all in one weekend. Look at companies like Roximity that effectively launched by winning Ford's contest at Disrupt. That's a real startup now. If

You're cherry picking here by focusing on the UK in your first example. There are plenty of nationalized healthcare nations that have 5 year survival rates that rival (and in some cases surpass) the United States. As for the second point, I

If this is true, imagine what it's like to be a Yahoo engineer. You just lost the ability to telecommute. You've suffered through downsizing. Morale is (by all reports) completely in the tank, and now they dump $30M into a 17 year old? I'd

Nexus 4 + t-mobile off contract is just fantastic. I knocked $50/month off of my monthly bill from Verizon (and got more in return). The thing pays for itself in 6 months.

I can prove that tests don't function. They are exactly the opposite of comments in that way. Change the functionality? Tests fail. I know they fail. I fix them. Yet comments can (and do) go way out of date.
