It's not correct. IIRC, Eliezer was mad that someone who thought they'd discovered a memetic hazard would be foolish enough to share it, and then his response to this unintentionally invoked the Streisand Effect. He didn't

Online applications are a black hole. I was a staff SWE at Google at the end of 2021 and my online applications ever got a response. I networked a bit and ended up with two strong offers.

You're missing the fundamental problem, which is that people have different opinions about what is evil. There may well be more Googlers who think it would be evil to _stop_ working with Israel. And it's not just counterproductive

I have a strong preference for non-activist workplaces. If I'm not values-aligned with an employer I can always leave. So I'm glad to see Google take a firm stance here. I'd expect the same reaction if the protesters were

I was working on Google Assistant at the time; the dialogue manager was written in Dart. I was mostly writing libraries and platform code...so APIs in a sense. The ecosystem isn't huge outside of Flutter, of course.

I got to spend a couple years writing Dart (not Flutter) and found it to be the best of both worlds. Such an underappreciated language.

We need a catalog of simple refutations of bad arguments and common misconceptions about AGI risk, with a short domain like agi.lol, so we can respond to comments like "I bet the guy who has spent 20 years worrying about AGI didn'

I lived in the Munger building at Stanford for a year and it was amazing. Maybe the other buildings aren't like that? But it was the best dorm I ever lived in, by far.

I agree it's probably not something new. But I will observe that OpenAI rank and file employees, presumably mostly working on making AI more effective, are very strongly selected against people who are sympathetic to safety/x-risk
