I can't speak for other interviewers, but I barely take this into account. As long as someone isn't actively antisocial (has never happened to me) or unprofessional (has happened once or twice) I file feedback exclusively on tech

I work for Google and conduct interviews for Google. No magic x-factor, just a good command of data structures and algorithms, plus the ability and stamina to express it in a full day of interviews, plus the luck to have a good night'

This is my problem with UBI. I don't believe that the US will ever meaningfully reduce the size or scope of the safety net. It's not politically feasible to do so. If we could could swap state managed welfare for equivalent UBI,

That's what markets are for. The joke at Google is that if we get a company-wide raise, Mountain View landlords are the ones who celebrate.

If someone's taxes go up $1000 and they get a $250 UBI check for it, that person could definitely complain.

Google gives 12 weeks of gender neutral baby bonding time (on top of physical recovery time, for birth moms). Andcdotally (sample size between 5 and 10), men do take less time off than women, but not due to any kind of pressure. With both

Disclaimer: Not speaking for my employer, and my experience was several years ago and may be out of date. My first project at Google was working on fake reviews on Maps. ML was certainly useful for some things, but at the end of the day so

Sorry, I wasn't trying to show off. All I meant was that I had a pretty thorough mainstream CS education. If I didn't learn shell on the way then it's safe to assume most CS students these days don't either.

I don't know what you mean by seven tiered support structures. My tech lead was a Senior Staff Software Engineer, L7, level seven, etc. Just meant that he was a relatively senior guy (not that he didn't get his hands dirty, ther

Exhibit A: When I joined Google Fiber, one of my first projects was converting a (POSIX) shell script that had grown to 1200 lines to Python. It became something that anyone could modify, including interns, rather than something that requi

This is incorrect. Access is an Alphabet subsidiary separate from Google and its CEO reports to the Alphabet executive team. The people working on it are incentivized for it to succeed, and the next person up is Larry Page.

Right, it's possible the executives weren't straightforward with us simple SWEs. But I don't have any particular reason/evidence for believing that in this case. My general priors for such things are somewhere between
