Anyone complaining about USPS quality of service should really travel to other countries. From my experience in Europe and elsewhere, USPS knocks it out of the park. One of the reasons that USPS is a national monopoly is that it provides an

This is so very German. Can anyone tell how the take-off/landing is handled? It appears that the planes ride on little support struts, but do the struts auto engage/disengage once landing is complete/about to begin? Most of the taxiing appe

Fusion really is the answer to the world's energy crisis, for all the reasons laid out in the article (can't melt down, ease of procuring fuel, no pollution, relatively small generation of nuclear waste). It's a shame that it doesn't have b

Good things to think about if you work for just about any large company. Staying late is a great opportunity to meet the people who work daily for your benefit. You might be pretty surprised with the conversations you end up having. My 2AM

I personally find this article's brand of narcissism-masquerading-as-activism really upsetting. This is not a blog entry about uncovering the seedy side of Google and how they abuse their employees. The only information of this kind to be f

Sales taxes are a really inefficient way of raising money. More specifically, you end up extracting most of your income from the poor and the middle-class, rather than the wealthy. We already have a fair way of levying a tax - it's the prop

Really amazing site! Finally a way to take advantage of the "I listen to all my music on YouTube" behavior that's becoming so common. One comment: it's too difficult to create new playlists. The front-page suggested lists is great, but I do

At the same time, "Programming Language Analysis Tool With Little To No Front-End or Real-Time Interaction" is not terribly representative of the average web application. (what exactly is a "Javascript application" anyway? This seems like a

I think even this test fails to capture true JS performance due to it's lack of DOM performance testing. This may not be terribly fair - is the performance of the DOM API still "Javascript"? - but then again, I'd prefer "useful" over "fair.

"usually because it isn't a priority or interest for them" is the real sticking point. In order to make a really good UI you have to make sacrifices . A lot of them. All the time. Your time, for one thing. Most of your good ideas, the ones

1). Ah, if that's the goal then...great I guess. I personally don't think moving back to a commodity currency is a good idea, but that is perhaps another discussion. 2). I've heard a number of Bitcoin enthusiasts state this as an advantage/

Bitcoin is both a really great idea, and a really stupid idea. sage_joch has already pointed out the reasons why it's a really cool idea. It's also flawed in a number of ways. First, the limited supply means that you've essentially just cre

It makes me wonder why Google doesn't create a registrar service. Not to make money - perhaps they'd even run at a loss - but to offer a service that doesn't make you hate yourself every time you have to interact with them. Considering the

Incentives in academia can get pretty complex, however. In terms of bragging rights, salary tends to factor in way below publications, tenure, chaired position, etc. Plenty of academics are still lured away to other institutions with the pr

I think this is a valid complaint. Sure, it looks "clean" and has some incredibly simplistic examples, but beyond that it's very much an alpha release. Of course, once we get to the aforementioned 1.0 release with a stable API, things will
