Interesting survey but I think an A/B test is really what we need here. A = traditional authentication / B = FB, Twitter, Google OAuth. The people without FB and Twitter are late adopters and won't try your service no matter what kind of au

I believe you're somewhat mistaken. SOX generally applies to finance systems and financial reporting at public companies. So if you're publicly traded you couldn't use this process for your accounting system. But if Facebook wants to let a

I think the important point is that "obvious" has a very precise meaning for patents, and it's not what you think it means. . There was a great IAmA on reddit with a patent examiner that's worth reading: http://www.reddit.com/r/Android/com

Despite strangely subtle mention of the fact that the CEO and author are engaged, I think it's worth noting that has a material impact on a common sense analysis. In the likely event that this start-up fizzles out, it's reassuring that your

I thought this was relevant given the Mat Honan attack reports: 2FA isn't only useful for Gmail. I was able to set this up in about 10 minutes on my Ubuntu and Mint boxes.

The cashier is just going to look at me totally lost. Even in Silicon Valley, maybe one in 100 customers is going to use Square. I don't see the value for Starbucks customers either.

If you look at the screenshot you get a better picture of why it bugs the issue submitter so much: he's downloading torrents. I.e. in Chrome he's downloading a tiny .torrent file, and the real download is happening in uTorrent or some exter

Interesting write-up, but I expect you will have some problems over time with this. In my experience the computer failures are relatively easy to manage. Power will be your primary issue, and to a lesser degree, internet. When we ran a lot

That's more like a "Linux is mainstream" moment. If it was truly a "Linux is awesome" moment, Linux would have given you more legroom and a free beer.

Very nice set of diagrams. But every time I see something this I have to ask myself again why I'm just not using CVS (or SVN, i.e. a simpler tool).

Yeah I hear you. We use Pivotal for a few projects and my top two complaints are the same as yours, although they've made some improvements in the last few months. OTOH there are things that bother me about the Trello UI as well. Thanks for

My expectation would be that you would still have one central PM and Planning board but you'd have a separate Current Development board for each team (i.e. different teams for different components/modules).

Very cool! I assume you've tried Pivotal Tracker at some point too? I'd be interested to know what you like/dislike about your new workflow compared to Pivotal.

"find the tiny thing that turns into the gigantic idea" I like this, or it at least validates some of my thinking. All of my startup ideas are small and modest, something that will help me and maybe some people like me. But I have no idea w

Browser prefixes are a great way for browser vendors and designers to experiment with new graphical elements. They're a good thing. But us hackers haven't caught up. It's been said before but I'll say it again: jQuery saves us from browser

Interesting project. Emacs is such a powerful tool. It makes sense to attempt to modernize it. It will be hard to get momentum because Emacs users are typically die-hard purists, so moving away from the "Emacs way" may ruffle some feathers.

37signals is pretty dogmatic about their design: what features _37signals_ believes their products should and shouldn't have. Just because they don't have the feature doesn't mean lots of users don't want it. Furthermore, sorting large data

They seem completely different to me. GWave is a collaboration/communication tool. Asana is a project management/planning tool. In theory you could do PM with GWave but it would be a bit of a stretch.
