As somebody who has made cron jobs my career for the last 11 years, who left a good gig as an engineering director to build a bootstrapped business — that means a lot. It keeps me chugging. Thanks so much.

I’m the developer of crontab.guru and Cronitor. We have a free tool called CronitorCLI that includes a cron-like shell. You can run and test your scripts in an environment that matches how they will be run by cron itself.

It’s true that root can disable user crontabs but the cron that’s shipped with all popular Linux distributions does have built-in support for them.

Yes this is correct. Something most developers don’t know is that you can set env vars directly in your crontab file.

I’m not saying you should never pay taxes, but are you seriously worried about little guys making under a million a year? Internet based companies are not using your roads or calling on your firefighters or getting protection from your poli

It doesn’t need every form of advertising, but you can’t start a business if you can’t reach prospective customers, and if you can’t start a business then you don’t have capitalism.

No. Poverty is the default state. Capitalism creates inequality but it also reduces poverty.

Capitalism has saved billions of people from poverty. Advertising is part of that trade. I’m happy it exists.

It’s not America’s fault that Europe strangles their companies with red tape. The main thing is to just get started, start growing, and then you can figure all of this stuff out.

If you’re not making at least $1 million a year — don’t worry about this yet. I know that sounds glib but I firmly believe that the rise of “merchant of record” startups like Paddle with large outbound sales teams has scared the bejeezus ou

Yes we raised the stakes considerably. Russia thought the Ukraine operation would be over in weeks. Fast forward a few more years. Russia is encircling Kiev. Are we supposed to put American boots on the ground? Give them tactical nukes? Wou

I would argue that we did our bid for European stability, that everybody thought Ukraine would be quickly overrun. We don’t need to defend every inch of Ukrainian soil for us to consider it a success and a deterrent. We did far more here th

That’s good to hear and I have had good experiences when I worked at a large company with a giant bill and a dedicated TAM. But now I run a startup with about $150k in annual AWS spend and the Business Support tier has been extremely distre

What makes this even more insulting is that their “premium support” is trash. You pay a percentage of your gross AWS bill and the support is useless in my experience.
