This browser looks great - it has a ton of features (mostly security/stability related) that I've been wishing for.

In this instance, we all happen to be people who spend a lot of time thinking about startups and websites. So it's like someone posting something on global warming to a climate modeling forum - I would expect people to judge on merits not a

While I agree 37signals has a much more impressive product track record than Aaron does and know quite a bit about marketing their products, the source of a statement has nothing to do with its validity. Either Aaron's argument is right, or

If we actually performed that experiment, and you were to be killed if you guessed wrong, what would you answer to the question "Is the coin heads or tails?"? Then ask yourself, how afraid of dying would you be? (In particular, the reason w

It's just better coded, for the most part. It was actually better before we started growing a lot; now we have scaling problems. We're working on smoothing everything out now. Of course, there have also been insights that I think may be fun

I think this question is fascinating, and it's one I've asked several people at various startups I know. Because you're comparing extremely different types of work to each other, it's very hard to answer.

YC startups are often technology companies; I'd argue Justin.tv, where we wrote our own video server software from scratch, would count. The ones who file patents tend to be slow burn, and are still under the radar.

Just because one could do something, doesn't mean one will do something. I'm not arguing you should use Lisp over Python, merely that the strength of libraries is not a language feature per se. Clearly, it's one of the most important things

Specifically, the Blub idea applies to language power. You could build python's libraries in Lisp, but you can't build a macro in Python without changing the language. On the other hand, Lisp isn't at the top of the theoretical Blub hiera

You cannot be woken up on tuesday with heads; that's part of the problem definition. So there are 3 ways to be woken up, and two of them are in the tails case.

Try thinking about it this way instead: If the coin comes up tails, you will be asked 1,000,000 times in a row. If the coin comes up heads, you have a 1/1,000,000 chance of being asked. I wake you up. If you had to guess if the coin was hea

For Y-Combinator founders it appears to be pretty decent so far, but perhaps that's an anomaly.

Editors will also kill straight up dupes of other stories, or things with no intellectual content (like funny pictures, etc.) A lot of it is arbitrary though, obviously.

This is my favorite of these ideas so far. It's one of those inevitabilities - eventually, someone will build a virtual currency exchange.

The point is that the combination of the three is the most powerful and secure. To copy something-you-are, they have to have access to you or things you've touched. To copy something-you-have, they have to steal the object itself. To copy s

I'm not familiar with the iPhone development platform, so I'm curious: if they distributed the source code for the app, could anyone sign up for a dev account and create a development copy of the application for their own phone?

The real question is usually not "Is this legal" but rather "Will this get us sued". We do many "illegal" things like jaywalking all the time, but everyone with sense knows which things are truly illegal.
