This is a research project at Google. I'm a Firefox fan myself, but this is on Firefox and nobody else. It should just work on Firefox; I wouldn't actually expect someone to do "testing" on a research article.

After the rural buses here were made free, the companies that own the buses started inflating the passenger amounts. The subsidies were in part dependent on how many passengers are taking the bus - to avoid paying for bad/inefficient r

There's a bunch of SEO tricks out there. Here's a simple one: donate to a bunch of well-known organizations and have them link to your website. https://www.pcmag.com/news/367640/how-a-vpn-review-site-domi

Are allergy rates really increasing or is this just the effect of media? Our bodies are weird. I spent all my summers as a kid in the countryside, with various animals and lots of vegetation. At age 12, for some reason I developed hay fever

I would only agree with the caveat that someone experienced should read your code, comment on it and improve on it. I spent years slowly learning how to be a better developer, on my own. If someone had been there early on to tell me: "

If you're small-scale then this works. I imagine big wallets are being tracked by governments, you probably don't want to create a log that can be traced to you. Ultimately, big-scale heists will always need money laundering.

KDE is honestly amazing. My environment is exactly they way I want it, every shortcut does exactly what I want. I used Gnome before it for a while. I remember writing extensions for it and fixing other people's extensions. I remember l

There should be a name for this sort of software design. It's not just encrypted/privacy-oriented or whatever. It's a software design with a clear contract on who owns the data: the user. E.g. Google Drive, which claims to ta

The whole connection hangs - it's not the server or buffering and I doubt it's the ISP. Reading more about it, you are correct about 1min being too long, therefore it's probably not (just) bufferbloat.

I have a 4G modem. Whenever I watch a video and skip forward a bunch of times, the connection hangs and I have to wait for about a minute before it resumes normal operation. Is this bufferbloat? I guess what happens is that a bunch of packe

On my more recent visit to the hospital I was no longer allowed to bring personal items to the surgery clinic. The nurses said it was the germs, which makes sense, but on my previous visits it was never a problem. I always switched to my re

If only Signal had reasonable multi-device support. I don't use Facebook, but the rest of my family uses it for group chat. It honestly makes sense as it's more usable. We also have a Signal group, but it's fallen out of favo

Netflix's UX is that it works and there are no ads. Otherwise there are way better UIs out there in the pirate world which actually have features other than "scroll through boxes of images".

I've got a brand. Chair and desk. Clean. Good connection. Preferrably nice view with moderate sunshine. Furnished by someone with a good eye. Some lounge space where you can chill.

google.com is 100% the most powerful, influential site existing by a wide margin. Can you say that about Whole Foods or Walmart? No, they're just another shop in town. Google IS the web.

It's not just a feature if clearly the first page on mobile search is all AMP. Anyone with half a brain realizes that if they want to get to first page on mobile, they need to use AMP. It's a requirement now, not a feature.

AMP is a terrible user experience though. Google Search on mobile is - pardon my language - fucked now. I hate it. I get trapped in the cache, getting to the actual source is pain, there's some stupid bar on top, websites are showing t

So what's the key difference vs React? When it comes to VDOM, as far as I know, that's just the implementation chosen in react-dom, not something that is inherent to React.

The key with documentation is knowing where to look. If you are Googling for documentation every time you need something, I think you're doing it wrong. I always go straight to the source documentation and often I go to the source code

I think I'd rather prefer not having the opt-out option. Although ultimately I feel like if you're malicious enough, you can fool the algorithm to produce the behaviour that you're looking for. Good work nonetheless.

I've now found a blog post[0], which seems to outline two main reasons for WASM over JVM on the web: 1. WASM is an open standard 2. WASM spec is smaller, so it's easier to integrate into the Javascript VM, which itself brings many

Half-facetious. If a government really wants to hold on to power by force, they can do it one way or another - elections end up being theatre in that case anyways.
