Not all people are fully aware of the causes and results of their sins and are taking that all into account. There's so many people that smoke and wish they never started. Why did they start in the first place? Even my generation (I am

Marketing & sales make products succeed though. If it's just an engineering team chipping away, the probability that it will get mainstream traction is close to nil.

This is the only reasonable solution for them though. If you don't close it like this, you could end up spawning a whole market, and you're no longer selling a product (maybe not the most "optimized" product, but which s

I agree. The current stack is here to stay and we will need to support it. However, as a web developer, I spend insane amounts of time dealing with simple issues that stem from the fact that we are building complex applications on top of it

Are we stuck with HTML/CSS/JS forever? For today's interactive applications, those 3 are clearly insufficient. Can't the standards commitees come up with a new "web language" that actually satisfies the needs o

Just out of respect for the customer. Of course this is a common pricing tactic in a lot of markets (cheap printer, expensive ink), but it always feels disrespectful. I'd be fine with just an "Apple tax" added on top of the b

I think OP is arguing: - Host can change what is in a package at any time. In case Deno calculates a hash on your machine (e.g. package-lock.json), it's not as bad, but still without a signed package you can't be sure that it was

There are better ways to reduce bloat. Gitlab can do web asset analysis and throw warning signs when your JS file goes over a certain size. Of course, in server-side applications the use-case would be different, but the idea remains the sam

Or a porch with a roof. I used to work on the porch with a forest as the background behind my screen. The village cat would come over for a nap around lunch and chill next to me for an hour or two. In the evening I went for a swim in the se

Postgres 12 has generated columns, so you can throw your data in a jsonb column and have Postgres pull data out of it into separate columns for indexing for example.

I thought Signal is more about privacy for the masses. Signal claims the call quality is better when this option is not enabled, so it makes sense to leave it off if your goal is to actually have users use your app. The call itself is still

What do you mean data-less? By design there has always been a Signal server. Signal should not stay as the simplest possible iteration of an encrypted chat application. If we want more people to use privacy-concious applications, those appl

It seems alphanumeric PINs are allowed now. At least on iOS, I do get the option to change the PIN to an alphanumeric one. The whole PIN thing has changed quite a bit in the past 6 months or so.

Has there been any scientific assessment of how powerful Google is compared to governments? Governments in general seem to be lagging hard behind advances on the net. More and more power is ending up in the hands of companies.

Another thing is that with package.json every dependency can say which versions of its dependencies it works with. This lets you update a dependency that is used by other dependencies and only have a single version (most up to date) of it.
