Any belief you have that the present system works any differently is a fiction.

This is not just about whether websites deserve to be able to get ad impressions. Will their ads not chew up my CPU and battery life? Will their ads not track my online behaviour in addition to showing me an ad? Will their ads not load othe

This is why I won't be using this. I don't want ten different ad network javascripts being loaded and running on every single page, along with whatever assets they want to load up and all the tracking they do across websites. And

We would hire an actor who both looks reasonably like you. If you're mixed but have X-colored skin, it makes sense to have someone with X-colored skin portray you.

I don't understand the big deal with Slack. It's a glorified web-based IRC-like thing? And yet another centralized, privately owned, third-party service. This is always the big turn-off here. Are there good self-hosted or fede

Aren't people already paying out the ass just for the privilege of having an i-device or being in Apple's ecosystem?

Our build process already includes the application's dependencies inside the jar, and packages it into an installable deb file that places the app, its config, and the init file in the right locations. I have a database and a cache ser

My application compiles to a jar that runs on a server and expects an accompanying config file. I've tried giving Docker a whirl a few times and I never fully understood what need I had that it was solving.

One bit of advice that should be up there is to run an ad blocker and a flash blocker (not so relevant anymore now that FF started blocking by default). I know, I know, websites depend on ads for revenue. But ads are also a great way to del

I hardly see how Scala is more painful on the eyes than good old Java.

Way more than 2000 classes? How many LOC is that? How much time did it take to compile, and how much time does the same 2000+ classes take to compile in Java?

Just because it's old, and you've fixed some bugs, doesn't mean that more bugs won't be discovered in the future. Perhaps the new code is in a language or paradigm that is less prone to certain classes of bug.

IMHO the CoffeeScript syntax is ugly and confusing. ES6 improves the language without borking the syntax so much. To add something more constructive, CoffeeScript is still just a transpiler. I think the long-term goal is for browsers to &qu

Even if this isn't quite an uber rival, this is ultimately Uber's problem. All they are is an app with some marketing, and anyone with a bit of money can easily come up with a competing app.
